Exquisite Corps

About: Exquisite Corps

In typical rock’n’roll fashion, Exquisite Corps emerged from a downtown alley garage in the spring of 2011. Beginning as a sextet, they have since proved to be anything but a typical band. With an original vision encompassing the lush power of a live string trio (cello & two violins) melded with the rhythmic density of an indie rock trio (guitar, bass & drums) the band was the perfect marriage of classic and modern. The summer of 2012 saw the release of their eponymous debut album to great reviews from blogs and print (PureVolume, the Daily Unsigned, Submerge Magazine). Steeped in the interplay of weaving string arrangements and soaring vocals, the record took the listener on a ride from intimate balladry to intense orchestral explosions backed by Zeppelin-esque drums and bass.

On the heels of their first release, the band took a grassroots approach to touring. Consistent travel up and down the West Coast landed them in great venues such as Bottom of the Hill (SF), House of Blues Sunset Strip (LA), Hotel Cafe (LA), and even selling out alternative venues like Sacramento’s Crocker Art Museum Auditorium. Support slots for !!! (chk chk chk) and Sub Pop’s Helio Sequence gave way to performances at such festivals as Lightning in a Bottle and Launch Fest sharing the bill with Blonde Redhead, Imagine Dragons, Moby, Phantogram, and Little Dragon.

In 2013, the extended stints on the road forced a more pragmatic approach to the live line-up. With the ever waning ability for most of the string section to accompany the band out of town, the composed lushness of the band’s previous material morphed into a more visceral and rhythmic approach. The loss of the strings invited the addition of an organ/keyboard player to fill in the sound. The transformation from whimsical chamber rock group to full-fledged eclectic psych-art-rock band was under way as Exquisite Corps went back into the studio to record their sophomore record.

The second album “Vignettes” was released on Sept 16, 2014 with the core line-up: Bryan Valenzuela on vocals and guitars, Robby Dean on drums and vocals, & Nathan Webb on bass. As a trio, these hard-working musicians have perfected their songwriting craft and honed their friendship, playing with each other intermittently since they were teenagers. They are joined by a rotating cast of amazing talent including Adam Rice on organ/keyboards and occasionally Kristin Arnold and Reylynn Goessling on violins.

BAND MEMBERS:

BRYAN V. - VOCALS/GUITAR
ROBBY DEAN - DRUMS/VOCALS
NATHAN WEBB - BASS
ADAM RICE - ORGAN/KEYBOARDS

Art Decade

About: Art Decade

Boston orchestral pop band Art Decade began when singer Ben Talmi was in the 8th grade. Or rather, the seeds of what would become Art Decade first took root when Talmi formed his first band, Channel, while still in his early teens. After several EPs, Channel garnered the attention of the late LeRoi Moore of The Dave Matthews Band. By then known as Art Decade, they were invited to record their 2008 Innocence/Experience EP at Matthews’ own Haunted Hollow Studio in Charlottesville, Virginia.

When the band was ready to record their 2012 debut LP, Western Sunrise, they enlisted producer Dan Hannon, set up shop in his studio, and came away with a self-described “neo indie classical” album of symphonic pop/rock. They continue this thorough dissection of indie pop and classical music on their self-titled sophomore album, which was released in early 2014.

Art Decade is a wonderful Symphonic Pop group with a destiny for global success.

Band Members:

Ben Talmi - Vocals, Guitar
Binod Singh - Bass
Jamie Walters - Drums
Joe Harrison - Guitar

Walter Sickert & The Army of Broken Toys

About: Walter Sickert & The Army of Broken Toys

The band Walter Sickert and the Army of Broken Toys formed, members Walter Sickert and Edrie say, from the “turmoil and loss” that came after their spouses took a road trip together and never returned. Both Sickert and Edrie have been active in the New England scene for several years, performing in various Electronic, Goth, Metal and Experimental bands. Comparing their music to the melodies of Rasputina with the performances of Marilyn Manson and the presence of Johnny Cash, Walter Sickert’s shows can range from loud with theatrical visuals to stripped-down acoustic sets.

“Musically sophisticated and immensely talented, wildly unusual and diverse in material and... presentation, a Dada-esque circus carnival run amuck, and just plain good ‘not-always-so-clean’ fun”. ~ Boston Survival Guide

"Walter Sickert & the Army of Broken Toys is a rollicking, raunchy sideshow of jolly, wheezing menace and delight. They roll in with their burlesque dancers, leers and winks and Hieronymus Bosch tableaus of living mannequins and props and while they play you accept decay, laugh at sex and revel in life. When they roll out again you feel empty.. it’s like the circus is leaving, and you want to go with them" ~ Marc Levy

Vespero

About: Vespero

Formed in Astrakhan, Russian Federation band VESPERO (ex-Веспер) began in early 2003 as all instrumental quartet of bassist/keyboardist Arkady Fedotov, violinist Valentin Rulev, percussionist/drummer Ivan Fedotov, and guitarist Alexander Kuzovlev who were brought together by common interest in spontaneous improvisations and psychedelic-fueled music.
In the next few months, the line-up grew to include a female vocalist, with the final addition of Natalya Tjurina, and Arkady Fedotov taking male vocalist duties. In 2004-2006, VESPERO endured several personnel changes, produced a number of self-made recordings featuring Alexei Klabukov on keyboards… and gradually shifted away from the acid-jamming and kraut-rock style to embrace a more prog-rock oriented approach to music drawing inspiration from the avant-garde poetry and theatre-art.

The band's current lineup features: Ivan Fedotov (drums, percussions), Arkady Fedotov (bass, synths, flutes, voice), Alexander Kuzovlev (guitars, electronics), and Alexei Klabukov (synths, keyboards, accordion)

"One listen to this musical outfit from Southern Russia known as Vespero was all it took to make me begin thinking about the great things that must be happening in Russia…" (by Ryan Sparks, Sea Of Tranquility).

"With each new release the Russian band Vespero further reinforce my feeling that they are one of the best instrumental bands on the contemporary Space Rock/Psychedelic scene…" (by Jerry Kranitz, Aural Innovations).

Seventh Epic

About: Seventh Epic

Seventh Epic is a rock/electronic band based in Charlotte, NC. The band is made up of Josh Queen on electric guitar, Shawna Ohm on keys and synths, Garrett Ohm on drums, and Sarah Queen on bass and lead vocals. The band performs regularly in the Charlotte area and surrounding region and has just released their second full-length album, "The Robots Are Dreaming Again.” Seventh Epic offers an energetic live show with charm and creativity. Their heavy use of synths and unconventional song structure pulls them into progressive rock, but the catchy songs wouldn’t let you know it. They take the crowds for a ride through heart pounding hard rock and wide open electronic spaces, then down for a smooth landing in an orchestrated saga.

Steve Morin & The Higgs Boson Project

About: Steve Morin & The Higgs Boson Project

The Higgs Boson. A title not frequently heard of or talked about amongst the masses. The search for "Dark Matter" and "Dark Energy" that make up more than 96% of our universe. It is the undiscovered particle thought to give matter mass. The God Particle! It is also the name I've chosen for this musical endeavor.Thank you for taking the time to visit and I hope you enjoy your stay! About the Guitar....I borrow these lyrics from the song Discovery,by Rush. "Behind my beloved waterfall, in the little room that was hidden beneath the cave, I found it. I brushed away the dust of the years, and picked it up, holding it reverently in my hands. I had no idea what it might be, but it was beautiful" ... ... "I learned to lay my fingers across the wires, and to turn the keys to make them sound differently. As I struck the wires with my other hand, I produced my first harmonious sounds, and soon my own music! How different it could be from the music of the Temples! I can't wait to tell the priests about it! ..." What can this strange device be? When I touch it, it gives forth a sound. It's got wires that vibrate and give music. What can this thing be that I found? See how it sings like a sad heart. And joyously screams out its pain. Sounds that build high like a mountain. Or notes that fall gently like rain. I can't wait to share this new wonder. The people will all see its light. Let them all make their own music. The Priests praise my name on this night. Welcome to The Higgs Boson Project!

Rising Appalachia

About: Rising Appalachia

Rising Appalachia brings to the stage a collection of sounds, stories, and songs steeped in tradition and a devotion to world culture. Intertwining a deep reverence for folk music and a passion for justice, they have made it their life’s work to sing songs that speak to something ancient yet surging with relevance. Whether playing at Red Rocks or in rail cars, at Italian street fairs or to Bulgarian herbalists, this fiercely independent band has blazed a unique and colorful path across the globe. 11 years into their movement, Rising Appalachia believes that the roots of all these old songs are vital to our ever evolving soundscape.

Led by the collective voice of sisters Leah and Chloe, and joined by their beloved band – percussionist Biko Casini and bassist/guitarist David Brown – Rising Appalachia is a melting pot of folk music simplicity, textured songwriting, and those bloodline harmonies that only siblings can pull off. Listen for a tapestry of song, clawhammer banjo tunes, fiddle, double bass, acoustic guitar, djembe, barra, bodhran, spoken word, and a wealth of musical layering that will leave you called to action and lulled into rhythmic dance simultaneously. It is both genre bending and familiar at the same time. Proudly born and raised in the concrete jungle of Atlanta, Georgia, sharpening their instincts in the mountains of Appalachia, and fine tuning their soul on the streets of New Orleans they have crafted a 6-album career from the dusts of their passion.

In 2015 Rising Appalachia founded the Slow Music Movement, to help maintain an independent musical spirit in the face of such a fast-paced world. They are creatively committed to keeping their work accessible at the local street level as well as expanding to larger audiences abroad, and have continued to maintain autonomy by self- managing, recording, producing and creating, and directing their work.

They are greatly honored to do the work that they do.

“Music is the tool with which we wield political prowess. Melody for the Roots of each of us…spreading song and sound around the globe. Music has become our script for vision- not just for aural pleasure, not just for hobby, but now as a means to connect and create in ways that we aren’t taught by mainstream culture. We are building community and tackling social injustice through melody, making the stage reach out with wide arms to gather this great family. It has taken on its own personality, carrying us all along the journey. Here's to poetic observations, social change, lyrical messages, political focus, symphonic coercing, ferocious bantering, bicycles and train tracks, primal will, fresh air, harmony, flow, and beautiful noise. ”- Leah Song.

Benjamin Bloom

About: Benjamin Bloom

In the darkest depths of Ipswich, a shadowy figure sits in a poorly lit studio, diligently plotting his impending world domination. Once simply the friendly neighbourhood keyboard player for Channel 4’s ‘Road to V’ Winners Rosalita, Benjamin Bloom lost the love of his life last year to a terminal illness, but the music didn’t stop.

Remerging heartbroken yet empowered in 2010, Bloom mixes cautionary lyrical fables with luscious melodies, bombastic pianos and the filthiest electro beats to create decadently melodramatic popular music – think Sparks, Queen, Danny Elfman, think fright night Elton John. Already making a name for himself on the national touring circuit and a regular on BBC Suffolk Introducing’s radio show, surrender yourself to Benjamin Bloom.

'In the way that every knight in shining armour should, His Royal Highness Benjamin Bloom will lead us to immortality with a fine blend of Queen...meets Sweeney Todd' - Graeme Mac, BBC Suffolk Introducing

‘His live shows are unusually professional for such a new act, showcasing melodramatic pop songs that combine hook-ridden melodies and somber messages akin to cautionary children's stories’ – Anna Dobbie, SoundProof Magazine

'With an incredible ability and stunning dexterity Benjamin Bloom strings together the purest piano melodies this side of the church with a voice so perfectly pitched in pop it resounds around your body in joyful splendour' - Kier Mills, Bloody Awful Poetry.

Influences:

Sparks, Muse, Queen, Elton John, ELO, Chopin, Roger Hodgson, Rachmaninov, Vince Clarke

Freedom or Death

About: Freedom or Death

“It’s the way I want to live my life. Having the freedom to make my own decisions and not adhere to the rules of others. To make art for my own well being, not for acceptance from the masses…To listen to what my heart beats to, not to slave for another’s. Give me the FREEDOM to make a life I choose - or hand me my DEATH.”

In the 1820's during the Greek War of Independence "Freedom or Death" became the war cry for the people of Greece. Their passion, belief and desires were so strong, that they accepted no substitute. The Toronto based duo adopted that name, as it’s their mantra when it comes to their music. “We want to have the freedom to make the music and the artistic choices that we want. If we can’t have that freedom, we’d rather not put anything out, which is the death of our art” says Fernandez, one half of the production and songwriting unit. Freedom Or Death’s sound is based in everything, acoustic folk, electronica, traditional rock, hip-hop rhythms yet always rooted in lyrics with substance. “We didn’t want to get caged into any kind of pigeonhole,” Sway says. “That’s our freedom, to make the music however it comes out. We have two different sensibilities to making music that clash, but it’s how we actually reconcile them that’s interesting.”

With the release of their self titled EP, they’re creating and making music their way. The two of them met while working at a major record label and have a solid understanding of how the music industry works. “We know what sold, we know how to make it, but we decided not to make it. We created an artist record”, Sway says. Within three months of writing they had come up with an album’s worth of material and in true fashion, Freedom Or Death assumed all creative control; every song was written, produced, recorded and performed by the duo.

With a strong and steady creative process, stopping is the last point on Freedom Or Death’s agenda, they plan on touring, as well as another EP in the near future. As long as the band’s ideals of their art come first and commerce taking a back seat hold true, they will continue to make the music they want to make for as long as they desire.
