Ending Satellites

About: Ending Satellites

Ending Satellites is a project that is both musical and visual, whose main ambition is to offer to who may wish to undertake, a journey out of time, within a few moments, in a universe where images become melodies.

At the same time, Ending Satellites is an eclectic artistic entity, evolving around the compositions and shots of Damien Dufour, but also shaped by the different personalities that come together in this project.

At the beginning of Ending Satellites, there was the end of something; to be born in his epilogue, another journey.

~ Francais~

Dirk Maassen

About: Dirk Maassen

Born in the winter of 1970, I spent my early days in a small town near Aachen, right at the Border of the Netherlands. My first contact with music was with one of the legendary carnival processions which made me feel in so many different colors that I knew right away that music was one of the most wonderful things in life.

From the age of 10, I took lessons on piano and church organ. My teacher, the sexton of our small village took me under his wing into the church quite often to play on a huge Pipe organ which was really impressive and amazing, as it made me feel like I was sitting right inside the music and become a part of it.

When I got older, I was influenced by 80s synth pop, and bought my first synthesizer. I started playing in different synth pop bands including memorable gigs in small clubs and later in a few festivals and CD productions. Nothing too serious, but at the age of 19 my band mates and I thought we where close to a breakthrough when our first CDs appeared in the local record store with a few hundred fans joining us at our concerts ;-) Apparently there was no breakthrough so we all went our separate ways and focused on our own creative process in music.

After a long break, I found my way back to the piano in 2011 and started composing again in 2012. As I am a software engineer by day, I create music preferably early morning or late at night which is not only a matter of time but also very inspiring times for making music.

Having a background in theory and methodology in my earlier stages, I found the results of improvisation transformed my music into structured compositions over time.

My music is inspired by Einaudi, Tiersen and Nevue with influences of the 80s but not limited to these. There is no genre or style I try to adopt, as I do not want to limit my creativity. It's all about sharing impressions, emotions and vibes with others. In a way I am making "social music" and hence I love to publish my music on social networks and getting in touch with my audience one on one.

In this light I hope you enjoy my music, share it, like it and drop me a line.

David Arkenstone

About: David Arkenstone

With 3 Grammy nominations, 20 Billboard hits, and millions of fans worldwide, David Arkenstone has established himself as one of the best contemporary instrumental musicians of our time. Known for his Celtic inspired, world beat new age fusion, he continues to create distinctive tracks that set him apart from other composers.

This award-winning multi-instrumentalist has captivated audiences since he broke onto the music scene in 1987 with his debut album, Valley In The Clouds, described by one reviewer as “one of the most exquisite electronic recordings ever produced.” Thriller choreographer Michael Peters created a ballet to Valley In The Clouds in celebration of the Winnipeg Royal Ballet’s 50th Anniversary. David has earned two #1 albums - Citizen of Time (1990) and In the Wake of the Wind (1991). His much celebrated Celtic Book of Days (1998) remains one of his most popular recordings ever. Released in 2000, Caravan of Light was honored as Best Album of the Year by New Age Voice, and Sketches From an American Journey made Soundscan’s list of top ten New Age Albums in 2002. Acclaimed music critic Michael Debbage recently listed three of David’s albums – Sketches From an American Journey, Atlantis, and Myths & Legends - in his Top 30 Of The Decade.

Often compared to Mannheim Steamroller and The Chieftains, David has made over 30 recordings, has toured extensively including performances at New York’s Radio City Music Hall and the Hollywood Bowl, scored dozens of films and documentaries, and composed music for the Olympics that is used to this day. NBC Producer David Michaels, who makes frequent use of David’s music, says “David writes with fire, passion and emotion, all at once simple and complex. He’s an artist capable of constant inspiration.” Adding to his diversity, David has a worldwide following as one of Blizzard Entertainment’s World of Warcraft composers including the groundbreaking expansion, Cataclysm.

A musical storyteller, David is passionate about taking his listeners on a journey, creating sonic tapestries that evoke every emotion. Critics hail his music as “full of thunder and feeling, comprised of layers of acoustic and electronic instruments and voices, which send the listener on a joyous expedition.

“A love for travel and adventure is just something that’s embedded in my personality,” says David. “Sometimes I get the feeling that I’m painting as much as I’m composing. I tend to envision a place where I would like to go, or an adventure I would like to take, and I let my imagination run free. I’ve gotten countless e-mail messages from listeners who love to take these journeys with me. I’m sometimes surprised by how powerfully people respond to my music.”

After coming to California from rural Chicago at age 10, David immersed himself in all the music he could find. Spending high school and college in various bands and performance groups, he then criss-crossed the country several times playing popular music. He finally settled down to concentrate on developing his own sound. David has always been inspired by the process of blending technology and music to create a multimedia fusion for producing amazing sounds. By working with state-of-the-art technology, he combines the highest quality electronic samples with acoustic instruments played by the finest musicians including David himself, often adding choral groups.

Technology has produced some wonderful tools for making music. The computer allows me to fully orchestrate my pieces and really fine tune them. I have always loved the sound of the orchestra, and now I believe I have refined a wonderful blend combining the best elements of the acoustic world, with the electronic world," states David. While he is primarily a keyboardist, David plays the guitar, mandolin, flute, cello, percussion, and many other instruments. His impressive collection of instruments includes native flutes, drums from around the world, and harmonium.

David enjoys being out on the road and meeting his fans and is particularly fond of his Winter Solstice concerts during the holidays. "One of the most exciting things about performing live is the interaction I get with the audience,” says David. “It's very different than making a recording, where you're never sure who is listening to it. The communication is complete in live performance, plus it’s just plain fun to play these songs with my friends, and the audience senses that. A lot of the roots of our musicianship come into focus without the magic of studio editing – it's the moment, you play your best, and many times reach new heights, and then it's gone, and on to the next one."

His current project include an epic, neo-classical album – a collaboration with enchanting singer/composer Charlee Brooks – set for release in 2012. “Working with Charlee has given me the opportunity to reinvent myself as an artist yet again. We have created music that transcends what either of us would be able to accomplish on our own.” David’s score for the critically acclaimed PBS documentary Echoes of Creation is one of his most adventurous to date. Domo Records, known for its eclectic roster of world music artists, including Kitaro, recently released Ambient World to rave reviews, along with Myths and Legends, Sketches From An American Journey, Echoes of Light And Shadow, and Spirit of the Drum. Other recent releases include Celtic Chillout, Visions of Christmas, Christmas Lounge, and a 3-CD set tailored to the spa and relaxation market: Bliss, Touch and Reflections. Fans can catch David and the band in concert and at special appearances at Renaissance faires and, of course, the Winter Solstice tour.

Carrie Armitage

About: Carrie Armitage

“Carrie Armitage is a Canadian singer-songwriter with a proclivity for ecological-consciousness and peace activism. Carrie’s 2010 release, The Spirit of The Times,
is a fairly candid take on the global awareness and preservation for the Earth’s vanishing resources. Carrie’s awareness of Earth’s impending plight is a musical message of electronica with varying shades of jazz, trip-hop, house, and lounge. The ambient beat of electronica and her vocals carry the song’s highs and lows from the darkest depths of Earth’s inner core through the vast darkness of intergalactic space." - Matthew Forss - Ariel Publicity
The 4th solo album released by Carrie Armitage “Frequency” in March 2014 is an eclectic, artistic mix of earth inspired soulful pop; ambient, eco/peace driven music with a hint of jazz, scat and spoken word.

“Frequency” is a painting made with sound by a colourful artistic mesh of New Age rock, electronica, and inspiring vocal flairs with soulful Jazzy expressions.” ~ Stewart Brennan – World United Music

Vespero

About: Vespero

Formed in Astrakhan, Russian Federation band VESPERO (ex-Веспер) began in early 2003 as all instrumental quartet of bassist/keyboardist Arkady Fedotov, violinist Valentin Rulev, percussionist/drummer Ivan Fedotov, and guitarist Alexander Kuzovlev who were brought together by common interest in spontaneous improvisations and psychedelic-fueled music.
In the next few months, the line-up grew to include a female vocalist, with the final addition of Natalya Tjurina, and Arkady Fedotov taking male vocalist duties. In 2004-2006, VESPERO endured several personnel changes, produced a number of self-made recordings featuring Alexei Klabukov on keyboards… and gradually shifted away from the acid-jamming and kraut-rock style to embrace a more prog-rock oriented approach to music drawing inspiration from the avant-garde poetry and theatre-art.

The band's current lineup features: Ivan Fedotov (drums, percussions), Arkady Fedotov (bass, synths, flutes, voice), Alexander Kuzovlev (guitars, electronics), and Alexei Klabukov (synths, keyboards, accordion)

"One listen to this musical outfit from Southern Russia known as Vespero was all it took to make me begin thinking about the great things that must be happening in Russia…" (by Ryan Sparks, Sea Of Tranquility).

"With each new release the Russian band Vespero further reinforce my feeling that they are one of the best instrumental bands on the contemporary Space Rock/Psychedelic scene…" (by Jerry Kranitz, Aural Innovations).

Wayne Reynolds

About: Wayne Reynolds

Singer, songwriter, and guitarist Wayne Reynolds doesn’t want to be fenced in. From the beginning of his musical life all the way up to the present moment, he has consistently avoided kowtowing to any brand of musical dogma. “I’m reminded,” muses Reynolds, “of the exhortation by none other than Bobby McFerrin that we should not live in the same musical room all the time. Walk around, don't get stuck.”

It should be no surprise, then, that when it comes to musical breeds, Reynolds is a bit of a mongrel, and proud of it. His album, Another Day Goes By, contains elements of folk, pop, jazz, classical, bossa nova, and more, all filtered through the singular sensibility that’s unique to the man steering the songs.

Despite the easygoing, understated tone of many of the tracks on Another Day Goes By, and the earthy, organic feel of the production, Reynolds comes from a family with close connections to the classical tradition. Not only was his great-grandfather William Burnet Tuthill the acclaimed architect behind the creation of Carnegie Hall and a gifted musician to boot, Reynolds’ grandfather and parents were also classically trained players. Much to his parents’ dismay, their guitar-playing offspring ended up playing in several rock bands as a teenager in Memphis. Though nobody knew it at the time, the last of these, The Jokers, would have a close tie to rock & roll history. “This band played a lot in clubs and shows in the area and had several members that became part of The Box Tops,” remembers Reynolds. “I was only 15, several years younger than the others, and when they quit school to play with [Box Tops singer/future Big Star frontman] Alex Chilton and the others, I declined, or really, was denied by my parents, as you can imagine.”

There may be an alternate universe where Reynolds stayed the course with his Memphis bandmates and ended up as part of the group that we know for scaling the late-‘60s charts with “The Letter” and “Cry Like a Baby.” But in our reality, true to his lifelong eclectic nature, he investigated other musical areas instead. Reynolds then met classical guitar legend Christopher Parkening, who was just a young man himself at the time, and was impressed enough to begin a serious study of guitar technique. “Through high school and college I kept at it and eventually went to music school on a scholarship to study with the great Cuban guitarist, Juan Mercadal,” recalls Reynolds of his artistic evolution.

Though Reynolds became well versed in classical guitar, he recalls, “I was always arranging some pop standards to play for pure fun.” By the time he became a part of the music faculty at the University of Memphis, Reynolds was moving into still more new territory, crafting soundtrack music for public television programs. But all the while, there was yet another place Reynolds’ constantly shifting muse was gradually leading him, towards the creation of Another Day Goes By.

“Over a few years I had written a group of songs that I was playing for friends,” explains Reynolds. “They were very impressed by the different quality they heard in the tunes and insisted that I do something about recording them.” The musical mélange that Reynolds’ friends heard, in advance of the public at large, was partly the product of his idiosyncratic influences (everything from bossa nova masters Baden Powell and Joao Gilberto to pop tunesmiths Jimmy Webb and Billy Joel) and partly his own set of musical fingerprints.

“We eventually went to work getting the songs arranged and recorded,” says Reynolds of the production process for Another Day Goes By. “We developed the arrangements more or less in real time with the rhythm section, and then multiple overdubs for the soprano sax, background singers, and the rest.” Though the record has a rich, full sound and finds Reynolds supported by a full band of obviously empathetic players, the arrangements are acoustic-oriented and the album retains a light, airy feel. There’s breathing space between the instruments, a natural-sounding vibe that’s sonically succinct but still feels somehow spontaneous.

The fluid finger-picking acoustic guitar patterns that drive the opening track, the romance-filled “All I’ll Ever Need,” give an indication right off the bat that Reynolds knows his way around a fretboard but isn’t one for hitting listeners over the head with ostentatious licks. At the same time, the seemingly classical-inspired guitar lines that light up “A Little Gray” could only come from the hands of someone with a lifetime of technique at their command. The combination of jazzy, minor-key moves and Reynolds’ warm, deep vocal tones on the album’s closing cut, “If You Walked Into My Life,” hark back to an era when it was still possible to turn on a Top 40 station and hear an accessible-but-sophisticated ballad like George Benson’s “This Masquerade.” And from the welcoming, James Taylor-like folk-pop feel of “Focus on the Love” to the plangent electric guitar coloring and insistent rhythm of “How to Be Me,” Another Day Goes By adheres to the open-ended artistic ethos that has sustained Reynolds since the beginning of his musical journey. When he says, “I want to have as broad and complete an offering as I can. I am challenged by all musical idioms and admire those artists who play lots of styles very well,” even a casual listen to this album proves that he takes those sentiments to heart.
