The Minstral Show – (Episode 045)

Today’s episode takes us on a mindful trip through a variety of empathically expressive songs featuring, The Outdoor Type, IN HOODIES, Jupiter, Third Whale, Withnailus, Dave Kerzner, Disturbed, Blkk Bones, and Agnes Obel.

More than just a podcast, World United Music has emerged to bring you the best music being made in the 21st century by signed, unsigned and Independent artists.

To all the Artists, be sure to share the podcast episode with your network as it helps bring attention not only to your work but to the work of others as well. That's what the “World United Music” project is all about, bringing attention to all the artists making great music.

SET: 01

First up, Melbourne singer / songwriter Zack Buchanan better known as “The Outdoor Type” starts us off with “On My Mind” An excellent song from 2016 that expresses the desire to escape poverty and travel the world. In many ways, the song reminds me of Lou Reed which is saying a lot. Big thumbs up.

Next is IN HOODIES from Bursa Turkey with “Rules of Adulthood” another great tune from 2016 from a very underrated album called “A Lunar Manoeuvre”. “Rules of Adulthood” is an infectious song about the changes that come with responsibility…a song that builds with a wall of sound until you “feel the knock”. A great tune from a great album.

Following IN HOODIES are Temecula California brothers Jordan, Evan and Aaron Doverspike better known as “Jupiter” with “Runaway” taken from their 2013 EP “The Fire”. Runaway is a song about worries and regrets and the temptation to run away from pain and responsibility. A solid tune with a 90’s rock-radio ambience to it that certainly should have given it massive airplay.

And so, “On My Mind, Rules of Adulthood and Runaway… feature in another mindful set of music, on the Minstral show.

SET: 02

Third Whale from Oslo Norway open today’s second set with “Take it Out” from their 2016 self titled EP “Third Whale”

Take it out is a heavy Progressive Psychedelic Rock trip that absorbes the mind in its hypnotic beat, rhythm, and guitar leads…a really good song to let your burdens fall away to…

Following Third Whale is Nottinghamshire artist Matt Pickering AKA “Withnailus” serving “Afternoon Tea with Eno & Vangelis” taken from his 2011 album “Goodbye”.

“Afternoon Tea with Eno & Vangelis” carries an ambient dreamlike atmosphere that surrounds the poetic final words of Replicant Roy Batty played by actor Rutger Hauer in the 1982 movie, Blade Runner. Matt captures the serene aura of Roy Batty’s last moments of life and the open gateway to spiritual release where light sings and consoles….a song that paints imagination with empathy.

Dave Kerzner follows with “Redemption” taken from his brilliant 2015 album “New World”. A Progressive Rock Masterpiece that anchors a mindful set of music not to be missed.

In my mind, Dave Kerzner breaths new life and energy into a genre that has remained hidden from the mainstream radio airwaves for decades, allowing Progressive Rock to re-emerged with a voice once again while bringing atmosphere and inspiration to other artists and fans alike in this new age of creative Independence.

And now a mindful progressive music trip to “Take it Out”, while having “Afternoon Tea with Eno & Vangelis” while reaching for “Redemption”, only on the Minstral show.

SET: 03

Our final set features the known and unknown artist in a harmony of sound that is empathic and deeply felt.

“Disturbed” opens the set with a brilliant rendition of Simon and Garfunkle’s “Sound of Silence” a song that has gone viral with almost 400 million hits alone on YouTube…so I’m pretty sure you’ve heard this one.

Following Disturbed is Montreal artist and composer “Blkk Bones” with “Horizon of a Lost World” taken from her debut album “Harmonia”

“Horizon of a Lost World” is a Conscious progressive electronic wave of refreshing ambient sounds that remind of Tangerine Dream in the spirit of the “Risky Business” soundtrack…a song that is just as dreamy and infectious as “Love on a Real Train” or “The dream is always the same”. Very good music.

Agnes Obel from Berlin Germany closes the set with “Familiar” taken from her brilliant 2016 Album Citizen of Glass”.

“Familiar” is a conscious dream that absorbs the essence of life into the spirit world where “Love is a Ghost that the Others Can’t See.” One of ten empathicly conscious songs on a great album.

And that’ll do it for this weeks episode of the Minstral Show.

The Minstral Show - (Episode 037)

World United Music presents episode 037 of “The Minstral Show” now on Anchor FM and Streamed around the World. Check us out at the following link:

Today’s show brings another 9 great tunes covering a wide range of genres by 9 exceptional bands and artists. Including, Third Whale, Black Country Communion, Southbound Snake Charmers, Wobbler, Agnes Obel, In Hoodies, Dirt Dress, The Hanging Stars and Elliot Brood.

This episode is actually the first one I made using the Anchor FM podcast website so we are evolving into a real radio platform for promoting great music across the World…Hey, catch the wave every Sunday evening on Anchor FM, the new home of “The Minstral Show” 😉 We are the Music Radio Revolution.

SET: 01

First up on today’s showcase is a song called “In Dreams by “Third Whale” a band out of Oslo Norway. The group comprises musicians, Eivind Skolt, Kent Rudolfsson, Henning Gulbrandsen, Vegard Magnhildson, & Robert Nystrand Nielsen. Their music is very pluralistic, in that it’s progressive rock, garage rock and psychedelic rock all at the same time. “In Dreams” jumps out of the blocks with its high energy and dopamine hooks that will surely have you boppin…great traveling song too if you’re on the road.

The second song of this set is by Black Country Communion with “The Last song for My Resting Place”. The song is taken from their smash 2017 album “BCC 4”. - Glenn Hughes, Joe Bonamassa, Jason Bonham and Derek Sherinian who make up “Black Country Communion” are seriously, the hottest rock act on the planet today; a real bona fide super group that brings rock into the 21st century…and with a bang.

Following BCC is Melbourne Australia’s Rockin blues band “Southbound Snake Charmers” with “Cut My Time” another stellar rockin blues tune which is taken from their brilliant 2017 album “Rhythm and Rust”. Chris Denman, Brooke Maloney, and Nat Sutphin make up this trio which is gaining much popularity across the internet and for good reason.

SET: 02

Our second set of music brings Progressive rock group “Wobbler” together with the angelic tones of “Agnes Obel” and the soft alternative sounds of In Hoodies.

Wobbler is a Norwegian Progressive Symphonic Rock band which formed in 1999 and is comprised of musicians Lars Fredrik Frøislie, Kristian Karl Hultgren, Martin Nordrum Kneppen, Andreas Wettergreen-Strømman-Prestmo, and Geir Marius-Bergom-Halleland.

Their song “From Silence to Somewhere” is taken from their 4th album by the same name and released in 2017. Without a doubt, the band takes the listener back to the Progressive Rock days of the 70’s with the unmistakable influences of Gentle Giant, Emerson, Lake & Palmer, Triumvirate, Yes, Genesis and others. This song is brilliantly complex with several parts woven into this 20 minute rock opera piece…it has so many feel good nostalgia moments that you’ll want to repeat the song over and over. A big thumbs up for this old DJ.

Following Wobbler is Danish born artist “Agnes Obel” with a wonderful piano composition called “Philharmonics” taken from her 2010 album of the same name. Agnes Obel has become a household name and rightly so as her angelic voice and beautiful piano compositions greet her listeners with a gentle soothing ambiance that casts off the madness of the world for a more relaxed setting. ….I find Agnes Obels music also mixes very well with progressive rock….If I was to describe her music, simply put, I’d have to say her music is medicine for the soul.

The third song of the set is “Shed Tune” by Bursa Turkey’s own Murat Kılıkçıer who performs under the name of “In Hoodies”. Shed Tune is alternative rock with lush vocal harmonic hooks that’s really infectious…it’s what I call a singers song.

Shed tune is taken from his 2016 album “A Lunar Manoeuvre” which is an album filled with pleasant surprizes…Hope you enjoy it as much as I.

SET: 03

Our last set of music on this episode combines several infectious neauveau alternative pop waves…ie: songs to that would have been huge hits in the 60’s, 70’ and 80’s when singing with groups of friends was cool…

First up is Dirt Dress with their poetically infectious 2014 hit “Revelations” taken from their EP of the same name. This song is bound to be a cult classic…lots of artistic flair in this one which is populous to say the least. The band is on hiatus at the moment pursuing solo projects but there is no doubt in this DJ’s mind that this song is going to be massive down the road.

Next up is “The Hanging Stars” featuring “Miranda Lee Richards on vocals with “How I Got this Way” taken from their 2018 album “Songs for Somewhere Else”.

The Hanging Stars are Richard Olson, Sam Ferman, Paulie Cobra, Patrick Ralla, and Joe Harvey-Whyte. The song is a spacy country folk pop tune with infectious harmonies that urges the listener to sing along with its upbeat matrix.

Closing the set is a Canadian three piece alternative country band called Elliot Brood with their lively foot tapping song “Dig a Little Hole” taken from their 2017 album “Ghost Gardens”. Elliot Brood is Casey Laforet, Stephen Pitkin, and Mark Sasso.

“Dig a Little Hole” is a song that, in its comical way, urges people to take their time and think before acting…good advice with a tap happy way to do it.

…and now let’s listen to some great music, on the Minstral Show…see you next Sunday.

Enjoy the Music!

United Music Mag 09 2016

Welcome!

In this weeks edition of United Music Mag, we cover a wide variety of new music including UK folk rock legend, “Graham Nash”, Cumbria UK’s gift to Progressive Rock, “Gandalf’s Fist”, a groovy Psychedelic surf Rock band from Madrid Spain called “Phonocaptors” and a great Indie rock band from Bursa, Turkey called “IN HOODIES”.

2016 is shaping up to be an awesome year for music and not surprisingly, today’s edition has a lot to offer. So let's not delay any further and get right to it...

1.

Graham Nash

First up is the never aging Graham Nash who has just released his latest album ”This Path Tonight” on Blue Castle Records. I was pleasantly surprised to find Graham’s new album on Bandcamp today and so was able to have a good listen to it and can say without hesitation that “This Path Tonight” is one of Graham’s best albums to date, in fact there’s going to be a good argument that it could be his best, and that’s saying something. But don’t take my word for it, have a listen to the music for yourself, you wont be disappointed.

“This Path Tonight” is the new studio album and collection of 10 original songs from Graham Nash. Produced by Shane Fontayne, this is Nash's first solo record of new music in fourteen years. The album is one of reflection and transition of a singer-songwriter whose career (the Hollies, CSN, CSNY) has spanned more than five decades and counting.

“What a pleasure it was recording this album,” says Graham Nash. “Shane and I had written 20 songs in a month and recorded them in eight days. The music has a different feel to my earlier albums although I hear echoes of each one. This journey of mine was one of self-discovery, of intense creation, of absolute passion.”

“This Path Tonight” is one of the best laidback reflective albums you will hear this year and will certainly top the charts. Be sure to catch Graham on Tour this year and while you’re at it, drop by his social websites to say “Hi” to let him know just how great his new album is…

Gandalf’s Fist

Progressive rock is back on the rise, and Gandalf’s Fist has a new album to share this year!

Their album, “The Clockwork Fable” is due out on May 01st, 2016 but the band has graciously given their music fans a track to listen to before release day called “Shadowborn”. They also released a song in Dec 2015 called, “The First Lamplighter (Memories of Nuclear Snow)” to keep everyone on their toes in anticipation…and of course we have included them here, below, for your listening pleasure. 8-)

The bands storied music has gained a sizable following over the past 11 years due to their unique blend of music that's steeped in Medieval Folk rock, including streams of Space rock to round out their brand of Progressive rock.

Gandalf’s Fist is Prog/Folk/Rock from the Murky depths of Cumbria, aided by a merry band of misfits, just waiting to be your new favourite Cult band! Check out more of their music below and then head over to their social websites to see what they’re up to.

Phonocaptors

Picking through new digital albums on bandcamp can be a real joy on some days and today was no exception especially when the first notes of, “Better Call Saul” by Phonocaptors captured my attention through its mesmerizing foot tapping wall of sound. I liked it right off the bat.

Phonocaptors is a far out Psychedelic instrumental quartet from Madrid Spain that just released their third album, “Errata Naturae” on Bandcamp April 16, 2016. All three albums are packed with a progressive psychedelic surf sound that tell a story in a unique progressive instrumental way and it's delivered in a multi coloured flair on the high side of the surf. Very enjoyable music…

IN HOODIES

IN HOODIES is an awesome rock band from Bursa, Turkey that I happened across on bandcamp today…all I can say is it’s been a great day for music! IN HOODIES music is described as Indie rock, or alternative rock that at times, borders on progressive rock…and really there’s a lot more room for description, but one word sums up their debut album, “A Lunar Manoeuvre” in a nutshell, and that word is “Awesome!” with an exclamation point!

The 10-song album, “A Lunar Manoeuvre” is a perfect blend of vocal harmony, lyric, and music vibration that not only captures your attention but also grows on you with each play, while also taking you to a real good place inside. The music is truly “Infectious” and will be one of the memorable albums of 2016. This is great music! Have a listen below and be sure to visit their social websites to let them know just how great the album is.
