“Without our songs and stories, we are nothing.” S. J. Tucker has been the glad captain of her own independent music career since 2004, when she left the workaday world behind to travel the continent, singing songs and changing lives. Named a vanguard of the Mythpunk movement and even “the face of neo-tribal Paganism” by Witches & Pagans Magazine, Tucker is the voice of lore at the campfire and the sharp laughter of modern myth. With one hand anchored in her art and the other held out to you, she is songs and stories, community and wit.

With over ten albums released to date and several more currently in the works, Tucker has received songwriting awards and has traveled the United States, Canada, and Europe with her music. S. J. (called “Sooj” by fans and friends) believes that there’s more than one way to be a rock star. If you’re chasing your dreams and living your life in a way that keeps you happy and healthy, Sooj believes you’ve got it made. You may often find her on tour with similarly hard-working artists and groups who believe in giving their fans all that they’ve got, such as Toronto’s Heather Dale Band, Seattle cellist Betsy Tinney (often with their shared project, Tricky Pixie), or Pride rockers Big Bad Gina.

A dynamic live performer known for her willingness to follow an evocative ballad with a tune about ninjas or pirates, Tucker is never in danger of taking herself too seriously. She lets it be plain on stage that she loves her job, but she also shows grace and calm, courting and cajoling her audience. Reviewers compare her voice to that of Joni Mitchell or Tori Amos, her guitar work to that of Emily Saliers. Apart from writing lyrics and music, S. J. loves fire dancing with poi and hula hoop and has given fire performances & workshops across the country. Additionally, she has worked as a professional audiobook narrator and an indie film score composer.

In 2014, S. J. celebrated ten solid and joyful years of touring and performing. This year, she’s released a new album called Stolen Season, which explores her Mississippi Delta jazz and blues roots more than ever before. On her plate for the rest of 2015 are such treasures as a new illustrated book based on her Wendy & Peter Pan songs (with an album to follow), a myths-and-literature-inspired song collection called Stormchaser, a video game soundtrack, and a long-awaited follow-up to her spiritually focused Blessings album, called Rootless.

Anilah

Anilah is the solo project from vocalist and composer Dréa Drury, a musician based in the Selkirk Mountains of Western Canada. She combines the shamanic and esoteric with modern elements, weaving a soundscape that is ethereal and yet solid with rhythmic pulse. For fans of Lisa Gerrard, Dead Can Dance, Wardruna, and Tool.

The music of Anilah is born from a practice that is deeply inspired by nature and a willingness to engage with the natural world within a framework of reciprocity. In this way, artistic expression becomes a symbiotic relationship with the elements. All of the music is composed in nature, while walking or in meditation. An unspoken conversation occurs which influences the composition, and by entering into this state, I find myself listening to melodic structures that are inherent within all of nature. There is a widening of the senses, and an unraveling of conceptual boundaries. My art and music are continuously influenced by these practices which cultivate benevolence, compassion, and gratitude.

The Dogon Lights

Pronounced "Doe-Gone, The Dogon Lights "Afro- galactic groove magma" from the Bay Area. The Dogon Lights create a shamanic and energetic dance atmosphere that takes the listener straight to the stars. Traditional skin and wood instruments are blended with electro hip hop beats and Jimi Hendrix inspired guitar with vocals in Spanish and African languages.

The Dogon Lights combine a blend of styles that is fresh and instantly recognizable. A blend of languages (Spanish, English, French, Wolof, Bambara etc) and instruments such as the Sintir and Guimbri from Morocco, the Kamale Ngoni, (similar to the Kora) from Mali and Burkina Faso, Calabash and Djembe of West Africa, with Electric Bass, Guitar, Synthesizer and Drums. The word, "Dogon" comes from the Dogon people of Mali who believe they are from "the dog star" or Sirius. The Dogon Lights have opened up for grammy winning artists Tinariwen from Mali as well as Bombino from Niger. Members have Performed with Bassnectar, Beats Antique, Rising Appalachia, The Mickey Hart Band, Hamsa Lila, Dirtwire and many others.

Hobbyhorse's sound is an intoxicating blend of soothing and exciting. They combine the raw beauty and romantic sounds of acoustic instruments and female lead vocals with the adventurous spirit of rock. Their vibe is mystical - an inheritance from their San Francisco bay area psychedelic roots. But they are as down to Earth as it gets, believing strongly in the power of real music - made by real musicians - playing real instruments.

Hobbyhorse has performed at many festivals around the San Francisco bay area and beyond including PantheaCon, The Annual Midsummer Celtic Faerie Festival, BayCon Sci Fi and Fantasy Convention, Palo Alto World Music Day, Palo Alto Art and Wine Festival, Boulder Creek Music and Art Showcase Festival, GoGirls Music Fest, and many more.

Annie and Phil from Hobbyhorse also host a popular internet radio station called Radio Guitar. They are very proud of this station which plays mostly acoustic - all instrumental guitar music.

Damh the Bard

Damh the Bard (born Dave Smith) was obsessed by music from a very tender age. Regularly found by his parents singing at the top of his voice on his rocking horse to John Denver and Ralph McTell it soon became apparent what his life-long goals would be. He got his first guitar aged 8 years old, and was taught Irish folk by his teacher, a multi-instrumentalist Irishman by the name of Tim O’Leary. Dave played his first live concerts at the age of 11 in pubs on the Isle of Wight, and took his guitar to school at every opportunity to entertain his classmates.

During his teens he played in several rock bands, one of which, Targa, played regularly on the London circuit, finally getting their own headlining concert at London’s prestigious Marquee Club.

During the 1990s he was trained as a Bard, poet and storyteller in the Order of Bards, Ovates and Druids, and it was during this time that he found his artistic expression within folk music, forming the ‘Mystic Folk’ band Spiral Castle for a support concert with Robin Williamson (founder member of the highly influential Incredible String Band). Spiral Castle played regularly during the late 90s at festivals including the Pagan Federation International Conference at Fairfield Halls in Croydon to a capacity 1500 audience.

In 2000 Damh made the decision to go it alone, and marked this with the release of his debut solo CD Herne’s Apprentice in 2001 to extremely favourable reviews, following this up with The Hills they are Hollow in 2003, Spirit of Albion in 2006, The Cauldron Born in 2008, all equally well received by fans and the music press. In 2009 he released Tales from the Crow Man, an album of mostly traditional folk songs alongside Eric Bogle’s classic anti-war song Green Fields of France. Then in 2010 he released a long-awaited live album As Nature Intended.

His inspiration comes from the ancient myths and legends of the British Isles and Ireland; from King Arthur to Taliesin; from the Welsh Mabinogion to old British folk customs.

Damh has always believed that his job is to entertain his audience and take them on a journey through the old stories and myths of this land. His audiences leave his concerts having been fully engaged by Damh, and with a deeper understanding of this land’s ancient heritage.

He has performed extensively on the spiritual festival circuit in the UK, USA, Australia and Europe, and is as much at home playing to an intimate audience of 50 to playing to 1500+ at the larger venues.

In August 2007 he was one of the featured folk singer/songwriters on the John Barleycorn Reborn compilation (produced by Woven Wheat Whispers and Coldspring Records) of modern folk artists who were considered to be breaking new ground in the current folk scene by working deeper with the UK’s mythology and folklore.

On the Summer Solstice 2010 Damh was initiated as the new Pendragon of the Order of Bards, Ovates and Druids, taking over from artist Will Worthington who has served the Order as Pendragon for the previous 19 years.
