The Minstral Show – (Episode 046)

Today’s episode takes us on a journey of awakening through songs that express the walls and battles we all have to overcome either by ourselves or collectively as a community. The road of life brings with it many hurdles, battles and lessons that eventually lead to an awakening and vision for creating a better world, featuring music by, Chastity Brown, Eric Burdon, Michael on Fire, Burlap to Cashmere, Chris de Burgh, Steve Hackett, Different Light, Matthew Perryman Jones, Deep Purple, and Dream Theater.

More than just a podcast, World United Music has emerged to bring you the best music being made in the 21st century by signed, unsigned and Independent artists.

To all the Artists, be sure to share the podcast episode with your network as it helps bring attention not only to your work but to the work of others as well. That's what the “World United Music” project is all about, bringing attention to all the artists who make great music.

SET: 01

Starting us off on the Long Road to awakening is Minnesota-based musician, singer and songwriter Chastity Brown with the soulful bluesy roots rock title song to her 2014 album “Long Way”. Our journey begins by revisiting the past where experience and memory can well up over each mile travelled back in time…it’s a long way, but a necessary journey to help clarify life going forward.

Following Chastity Brown is UK legend Eric Burdon with “27 Forever” taken from his 2013 album “Til Your River Runs Dry” A conscious conversation with ones self looking back in time with what would have been if we had taken the other path at the fork in the road. Eric Burdon bares his soul in 27 Forever.

Detroit’s own, Michael on Fire follows with “Cadillac Beach” taken from his 2014 album “The Artist, the Dreamer. The Lover and the Fool”.

Cadillac Beach, is beautifully expressed through poetic lyric and soothing acoustic guitar reminding us to appreciate life because it can change in an instant and leave us with unforgettable, painful moments. Wise words to remember when running around at 200 miles an hour trying to check off all the things on an endless to do list. Don’t miss out on what’s really important…

Burlap to Cashmere closes the set with the title track to their 1998 album “Anybody Out There” an empathic song of reflection and awakening as one finds themselves alone in searching for answers to life. A powerful moment on our long road.

And so, we begin a mindful journey to overcome the hurdles of life on the road to clarity, and all through the best music of today, on the minstral show.

SET: 02

Chris de Burgh starts off the second set with “Waiting for the hurricane” taken from his 2012 album “Home”

“Waiting for the hurricane” is a robust, energetic filled song that lifts the adrenalin levels, much the same way his classic tune, “Don’t pay the Ferryman” does. The energy and flow reminds us that, sometimes in life, there’s no escaping the storms that come our way, and so the best thing to do is brace yourself and stand up for what’s to come.

Following Chris de Burgh is Steve Hackett with the title track to his 2015 album “Wolflight”

“Wolflight” is a song that tells of community’s endless fight for survival from sinister forces while trying to preserve our existence. We stand our ground and fight back for our very survival…and its at this point where the awakening grows exponentially…a great tune by Steve Hackett and band.

Following Steve Hackett is “Different Light” from the Czech Republic with “In Love and War” taken from their 2016 Album “The Burden of Paradise” The song takes us through the aftermath of battles fought and down the emotional road that is left in their wake, to confront, the memories that have become scars in the game of love and war.

And so, we brace for the hurricanes that descend onto us in life and battle enemy forces to win our freedom, on the Minstral show.

SET: 03

Leading off the third set is Matthew Perryman Jones with the title track to his 2015 album “Cold Answer”. Poetic lyrics describe feelings of being spiritually grounded, when waking up in the middle of a war and seeing for the first time the cold reality of wars purveyors. Great empathic music by Matthew Perryman Jones

Deep Purple follows with “Blood from a Stone” taken from their 2013 album “Now What!?”

The peoples voice screams out in this song by Deep Purple as the community is always under attack by economic predators that often call themselves our governments. An excellent blues tune that packs a lotta truth.

Dream Theater closes the set with “Our New World” taken from their 2016 album “The Astonishing”

Hope cries out to build a new World, one that’s better and made for all and not just the few. And all we have to do, to make our dreams a reality, is to just go out and make it happen. The world is ours to build, and so freedom awaits in “Our New World”…a great tune to unite people in creating a better world.

The Minstral Show – (Episode 045)

Today’s episode takes us on a mindful trip through a variety of empathically expressive songs featuring, The Outdoor Type, IN HOODIES, Jupiter, Third Whale, Withnailus, Dave Kerzner, Disturbed, Blkk Bones, and Agnes Obel.

More than just a podcast, World United Music has emerged to bring you the best music being made in the 21st century by signed, unsigned and Independent artists.

To all the Artists, be sure to share the podcast episode with your network as it helps bring attention not only to your work but to the work of others as well. That's what the “World United Music” project is all about, bringing attention to all the artists making great music.

SET: 01

First up, Melbourne singer / songwriter Zack Buchanan better known as “The Outdoor Type” starts us off with “On My Mind” An excellent song from 2016 that expresses the desire to escape poverty and travel the world. In many ways, the song reminds me of Lou Reed which is saying a lot. Big thumbs up.

Next is IN HOODIES from Bursa Turkey with “Rules of Adulthood” another great tune from 2016 from a very underrated album called “A Lunar Manoeuvre”. “Rules of Adulthood” is an infectious song about the changes that come with responsibility…a song that builds with a wall of sound until you “feel the knock”. A great tune from a great album.

Following IN HOODIES are Temecula California brothers Jordan, Evan and Aaron Doverspike better known as “Jupiter” with “Runaway” taken from their 2013 EP “The Fire”. Runaway is a song about worries and regrets and the temptation to run away from pain and responsibility. A solid tune with a 90’s rock-radio ambience to it that certainly should have given it massive airplay.

And so, “On My Mind, Rules of Adulthood and Runaway… feature in another mindful set of music, on the Minstral show.

SET: 02

Third Whale from Oslo Norway open today’s second set with “Take it Out” from their 2016 self titled EP “Third Whale”

Take it out is a heavy Progressive Psychedelic Rock trip that absorbes the mind in its hypnotic beat, rhythm, and guitar leads…a really good song to let your burdens fall away to…

Following Third Whale is Nottinghamshire artist Matt Pickering AKA “Withnailus” serving “Afternoon Tea with Eno & Vangelis” taken from his 2011 album “Goodbye”.

“Afternoon Tea with Eno & Vangelis” carries an ambient dreamlike atmosphere that surrounds the poetic final words of Replicant Roy Batty played by actor Rutger Hauer in the 1982 movie, Blade Runner. Matt captures the serene aura of Roy Batty’s last moments of life and the open gateway to spiritual release where light sings and consoles….a song that paints imagination with empathy.

Dave Kerzner follows with “Redemption” taken from his brilliant 2015 album “New World”. A Progressive Rock Masterpiece that anchors a mindful set of music not to be missed.

In my mind, Dave Kerzner breaths new life and energy into a genre that has remained hidden from the mainstream radio airwaves for decades, allowing Progressive Rock to re-emerged with a voice once again while bringing atmosphere and inspiration to other artists and fans alike in this new age of creative Independence.

And now a mindful progressive music trip to “Take it Out”, while having “Afternoon Tea with Eno & Vangelis” while reaching for “Redemption”, only on the Minstral show.

SET: 03

Our final set features the known and unknown artist in a harmony of sound that is empathic and deeply felt.

“Disturbed” opens the set with a brilliant rendition of Simon and Garfunkle’s “Sound of Silence” a song that has gone viral with almost 400 million hits alone on YouTube…so I’m pretty sure you’ve heard this one.

Following Disturbed is Montreal artist and composer “Blkk Bones” with “Horizon of a Lost World” taken from her debut album “Harmonia”

“Horizon of a Lost World” is a Conscious progressive electronic wave of refreshing ambient sounds that remind of Tangerine Dream in the spirit of the “Risky Business” soundtrack…a song that is just as dreamy and infectious as “Love on a Real Train” or “The dream is always the same”. Very good music.

Agnes Obel from Berlin Germany closes the set with “Familiar” taken from her brilliant 2016 Album Citizen of Glass”.

“Familiar” is a conscious dream that absorbs the essence of life into the spirit world where “Love is a Ghost that the Others Can’t See.” One of ten empathicly conscious songs on a great album.

And that’ll do it for this weeks episode of the Minstral Show.

Be sure to support the artists by going to their official websites, buying their music and joining their email platforms. Details are in the episode description.

And now let’s have a listen to The Sound of Silence on the Horizon of a Lost World that seems so Familiar.

The Minstral Show – (Episode 044)

Hello, and welcome to this week’s episode of the Minstral Show!

More than just a podcast, World United Music has emerged to bring you the best music being made in the 21st century by signed, unsigned and Independent artists…and so, as always, we have another great line up of artists to take us through these darker days into the liberating times to come, featuring: Underlights, David Philips, Parker Bombshell, NOMIA, Coma Recovery, Walter Sickert & The Army of Broken Toys, Drenge, Robert Icaza, Green Day and Michael Mazochi

To all the Artists, be sure to share the podcast episode with your network as it helps bring attention not only to your work but the work of others as well. That's what my music project “World United Music” is all about, bringing attention to all the artists who make great music.

SET: 01

Starting off today’s show is Sydney Australia’s “Underlights” with “Remnants” taken from their 2012 self titled EP “Underlights”. “Remnants” lends the feelings of being in a serene dream state while searching for something elusive. An excellent expression from an excellent EP…yet

Not long after their EP release, the band disappeared from the music radar screen which leaves me dumbfounded as to why because this group should have been on every radio station world wide in my opinion. Maybe we can coax them back, hey, Jack Friels, Johnny Took, Tom O’Dell and Darius Navidzadeh, If you’re out there listening, come on back and do this thing! We need more music like this!

Following Underlights is David Philips with “Nowhere” taken from his latest album “Get Along” digitally released by Black n Tan Records May 7th, 2018. The album is David’s 7th to date which continues the passionately soulful acoustic folk n blues David is known for. It’s the very thing I love about David’s music as he pours his soul into every track to greet us in our solitary confinement with colourful waves of hope through the medicinal properties of the blues…and so his song, “Nowhere” greets us half a mile from nowhere and takes us somewhere meaningful, to process life.

Following David Philips is Parker Bombshell with “Karma” taken from their June 2014 EP “Everyone’s a TV Baby” “Karma” is a new wave synth pop tune with a catchy dance beat that examines the blind alley some of us end up in… in its way, “Karma” helps us to move beyond a depressive state by confronting regrets and replacing them with hope. A unique song in healing ambience and lyric, so hats off to Tom McNeil and Thomas Payne who are Parker Bombshell.

Now, Time comes alive in music to create “Remnants” from “Nowhere” where “Karma” greats us in song…another meaningful set of music on the minstral show.

SET: 02

Our second set of music is very progressive and deals with the dark places we sometimes go to in our minds. …fear not, we will not leave you there

Starting off the second set is Minnianapolis Minnesota band “NOMIA” with “A Windswept Tree” taken from their 2014 Album Iron and Rust. “A Windswept Tree” is a progressive instrumental Rock piece that absorbs the listener into a matrix of complex expressions and thought…in a way the music simulates the mind processing a backlog of life we often put aside for another day…the very reason why Progressive Rock is called the thinking mans music. Truly a must listen for critical thinkers and progressive rock fans.

Next up is Albuquerque New Mexico band “Coma Recovery with “Nox Medicus” or “Night Medicine” from their April 2018 album “Apotheosis” What Coma Recovery delivers is an infectious heavy rock / progressive rock tune with deeply poetic and moving lyrics that reminds of Tears for Fears, only heavier. A great song that cements the songs of this set into a thought filled meaningful expression.

Closing out the set is the Musically sophisticated and immensely talented Boston Art Rock group “Walter Sickert & The Army of Broken Toys” with “Cataclysm” taken from their 2010 album “Steam Ship Killers”. “Cataclysm” is the end…the end of the crisis we must all face if we are to see it through…the perfect climactic end to this powerful set of music.

And so, A Windswept Tree, Night Medicine and A Cataclysm find their way into your thoughts, only on the minstral show.

SET: 03

Defiance and revolution fill the third set on today’s theme of the minstral show…

UK rock group “Drenge” starts the final set with “Side by Side” taken from their 2015 Album “Undertow”

“Side by Side” is a grungy garage punk rock tune that jumps out of the darkest nights with a defiant attitude. One of the very best songs by Drenge.

Following Drenge is Rhode Island Punk Rocker “Robert Icaza” with “Gotta Get Out” taken from his 2018 album “Demo”.

Influenced by the Clash, Bad Religion and the Sex Pistols among others, Robert says what we all feel at times…we gotta get out, gotta get out of here…and then the decision is made…

Following Robert Icaza is Green Day with a live version of “99 Revolutions” from their 2012 album “Tre’”…I say it often and I say it again, “The revolution BEGINS with Music” and what better way to do it than with the rockin defiant attitude of Green Day.

Closing this special 4 song set is “Michael Mazochi with “Put up a Fight” an unreleased song from 2015 that tells us not to give up or give in but to put up a fight against all the lies the establishment rests on…Don’t live a lie, put up a fight…A powerful rock n roll tune who’s voice needs to be heard by all.

Be sure to support the artists by going to their official websites, buying their music and joining their email platforms. Details are in the episode description.

...and so we have seemingly come from a state of Isolation and illusion into a conscious awakening to face our fears and the oblivion that is all around us to then seize the moment through rebellion and revolution and put up a fight…

and now “Catch the Wave” with the music revolution, on the Minstral show. See you next week!

The Minstral Show – (Episode 043)

Hello, and welcome to Episode 43 of the Minstral Show!

This week’s show offers a good solid variety of music from Psychedelic Pop to Progressive Rock, and then some, by a great cast of bands and artists from Australia to Iceland, Japan to Germany, and the US to UK including, Steve Hackett, Brother Speed, Sir Robin & The Longbowmen, Hats off Gentlemen its Adequate, Aeon Satori, Kikagaku Moyo, The Dandelion Seeds, Corners, and Psychic Ills.

More than just a podcast, World United Music has emerged to bring you the best music being made in the 21st century by signed, unsigned and Independent artists.

To all the Artists, be sure to share the podcast episode with your network as it helps bring attention not only to your work but the work of others as well. That's what my music project “World United Music” is all about, bringing attention to the artists who make great music.

SET: 01

Steve Hackett starts us off with “Waters of the Wild” taken from his 2006 album “Wild Orchids”

“Waters of the Wild”, is another masterful song by Steve Hackett with Poetic lyrics, infectious hooks in a Psychedelic wave with a foot tapping beat. I loved this song right off the bat, no question, and believe this would be a great song played live and over the radio…one of many brilliant tunes by Steve Hackett.

Following Steve Hackett is Aussie / UK band “Brother Speed” with their 2013 debut single “Let Me Be”.

Brother Speed originally started as a side project for guitarist and vocalist Darius Navidzadeh, one of the founding members of Sydney band “Underlights”.

With “Let Me Be” you get a unique blend of psychedelic pop and shoe gaze rock. An Infectious tune with all the waves and right hooks to knock you out.

Next up is Dresden band “Sir Robin & The Longbowmen” with “I Would Like” taken from their January 2016 album “Sir Robin & The Longbowmen”

“I would Like” is a retro 60’s Progressive Psychedelic Pop tune that really connects as the hooks are laced with nostalgia and a satisfying blend of Mellotron, Organ, Guitars, Vocals, Bass, and Drums.

A good anchor to a great Progressive Psychedelic Pop set to start off episode 43 of the Minstral Show…and with that said, here comes the music.

SET: 02

Our second set of music begins with UK group “Hats off Gentlemen its Adequate” with Part one of their December 2017 album “Broken but Still Standing” …actually, it’s the first four songs of the album covering about 15 minutes with Vent, Almost Familiar, Lucato Lucy and Lucy.

Broken But Still Standing is a science / science fiction concept album that follows the story of human evolution, from LUCA, the last universal common ancestor of all current life on earth, via Lucy, to conflict and eventual symbiosis with artificial intelligence.

If I was to compare this original music to others from the past, I’d say there is a definite Pink Floyd and Jeff Wayne War of the Worlds feel to this music with a Ray Thomas of the Moody Blues flute that pleases the progressive rock passions in me. Certainly, this is a must listen for progressive rock fans who like classical elements in their music as I do. An amazing performance not to miss.

Aeon Satori follows with “Eyes Open” (Behold the Pale Horse) a 2017 Progressive Rock single from their forthcoming album.

"Eyes Open" Reminds me of the Alan Parsons Project and 70’s Genesis, but the music stands on its own with good lyrics that give substance to the thoughts and atmosphere many are feeling today. “Eyes Open” is one of the very Best Progressive Rock songs of 2017.

Closing the set is Japan’s “Kikagaku Moyo” with “Smoke and Mirrors” taken from their May 2014 Album “Forest of Lost Children”…This song knocked me off my feet when I first heard it,… and still does… a Progressive Psychedelic rock masterpiece that screams “10 years after”, or “Country Joe and the Fish”, take your pick; and Hawkwind’s build up in “Spiral Galaxy” from warriors on the edge of time. The song has a unique Woodstock feel to it that has me addicted…a great tune to close out this progressive set of music which is Almost familiar with Open Eyes to Smoke and Mirrors; on the Minstral Show.

SET: 03

Our 3rd set is a return to the colorful Psychedelic waves of the 60’s with “The Dandelion Seeds”, “Corners”, and “Psychic Ills”

From Reykjavík, Iceland, The Dandelion seeds start us off with “The Waiting Game” taken from their 2013 self titled album “The Dandelion Seeds”

“The Waiting Game is a psychedelic / garage rock tune that takes the heart, mind and soul back to the 60’s with a robust hook laden music that is hard not to like. I love the concept of the name of this band “The Dandelion Seeds” as it brings to mind the power of flowers which quickly multiply in all their golden beauty across lawns, valleys and mountains to blanket spring just as an infectious song can spreads across the minds of the masses across the world…a really neat concept when thinking about how music can influence the future…hey, it’s the music revolution.

Following “The Dandelion Seeds” is L.A. California band “Corners” with “Automatic Man” a mellow laid back Sunday afternoon sunny beams shining through the basement window kind of song.

Corners is what happens when you put new wave, psychedelic rock and punk together…just shake and you get a unique experience that captures a place of twilight in your head that leans back to past eras of rock…heavy and mellow

From NY, NY, the “Psychic Ills” close the set with “I Don’t Mind” taken from their 2016 album “Inner Journey Out” …“I don’t Mind” is a bluesy psychedelic country tune to ease the mind on this sun setting Sunday afternoon and a good song to close out this weeks episode of the minstral show.

Be sure to support the artists by going to their official websites, buying their music and joining their email platforms. Details are in the episode description.

And now The Waiting Game belongs to the Automatic Man, and I don’t mind, only on the Minstral Show… have a good week everyone!
