The Minstral Show – (Episode 057)

An awesome lineup of music today that sails the seas of deep personal thoughts and experience featuring; Phoebe Bridgers, Kane Miller, Peter Case, JD McPherson, David Bowie, Roger Waters, Marqui Adora, David Crosby, John Lodge, Joe Bonamassa, and Great Lake Swimmers.

More than just a podcast, World United Music has emerged to bring you the best music being made in the 21st century by signed, unsigned and Independent artists.

To all the Artists, be sure to share the podcast episode with your network as it helps bring attention not only to your work but to the work of others as well. That's what the “World United Music” project is all about, bringing attention to all the artists who make great music.

SET: 01

Phoebe Bridgers opens the first set with “Funeral” taken from her 2017 album “Stranger in the Alps”.

Funeral is a very emotive and powerful song about a teen having to deal with the reality of death while also dealing with her own depression. The lyrics are real and connect on a level that most of can identify with…Truly, A very hard hitting song of life that breaks down the emotional defenses due to its realism and shared experience.

Kane Miller from Lakefield, Ontario, Canada follows with his Aug 31st 2018 single “All We Need”. A light acoustic song with harmonic vocal blends that express the deep feelings of trying to hold onto a relationship that is drifting in a different direction. A song that would have no problem fitting in with Jim Croce and James Taylor. Big thumbs up to Kane Miller.

Peter Case follows with “Ain’t Gonna Worry No More” taken from his 2007 album “Let Us All Praise Sleepy John”. “Ain’t Gonna Worry No More” brings visualization and understanding to a time in history seen through the eyes of the artist as life and events are conveyed through exceptional lyrics and a comforting acoustic safety blanket…a truth tellers tune that engages the listener from the first note…one can almost see the engaged audience silently reflecting around a camp fire…

JD McPherson closes the set with “Precious” taken from his 2015 Album “Let the Good Times Roll”. A song about love and the overwhelming grace of its healing powers. The Magic of “The Platters”, “Sam Cooke” and “The Drifters” come racing back, when I hear this amazing retro 50’s song. It is powerful tune that’s soulfully engaging…it’s hard not to sing along to a song as good as this.

And so, a set of very real and emotionally impacting music coming at you, on the Minstral show.

SET: 02

David Bowie opens the second set with “Lazarus” taken from his January 2016 album “Black Star”. I have to admit, I grieved for 3 days after David Bowie passed away and like all his fans, I never knew the pain that he went through as a Star which he revealed through the videos he made for the album…”Lazarus” in particular shows us what was going through David Bowie’s mind before he died. He was a creative genius right up to his death as the Video for the song attests. Simply brilliant and sobering at the same time.

Roger Waters follows with three songs from his 2017 album “Is this the Life We Really Want”. I believe the songs are meant to be played together starting with “Wait for Her”, then “Oceans Apart” and ending with “Part of Me Died” The songs are poetically expressive and telling of a persons respect for life and then the grief and anger one feels at a world gone insane forgetting its commitment to morality where one cannot go back to sleep once awake to the lies that were sold by evil beings. Roger Waters is a true artist and poet with a voice for the voiceless…

Marqui Adora closes the set with “Away” taken from their 2006 album “White Buildings”.

“Away” Seeks to find an answer or a way to end the dark clouds that hang over us when facing difficult times…we call out to consciousness to help us.

And so, David Bowie, Roger Waters and Marqui Adora help us to connect the dots in what really matters, on the Minstral show.

SET: 03

Continuing on the theme from the last set, David Crosby opens the final set with “Dangerous Night” taken from his 2014 album “Croz”. We truly live in dangerous times with a world turned upside down for profit and so “Dangerous Night” expresses our collective thoughts, anguish and worries on the issues we face when seeing the nightmares we have awakened to.

John Lodge follows with “Get Me Out of Here” taken from his 2017 live album “The 10,000 light years Tour”. The song is about being aware of loosing love while facing ones fears in an uncertain future. An excellent solo effort by the Moody Blues icon John Lodge. Incidentally, John is touring North America in October 2018 so be sure to check out his website for more details.

The king of rockin blues, Joe Bonamassa follows with the title track to his Sept 2018 album “Redemption”. Joe’s new album is truly one of his finest to date and that’s, saying a lot. If you subscribe to his website and youtube channel, you’ll be privy to lot’s of great music in what is a good solid active music channel.

About the song, well, Many of us have been there, Down and out and looking for redemption. An excellent rockin blues tune by the master, Joe Bonamassa.

Great Lake swimmers close the set with “Visions of a Different World” taken from their Sept. 03rd 2018 album “The Waves, The Wake”. Anthony Dekker creates a harmonic vocal masterpiece to express his vision and hope for a different world”. A very soothing song done without instruments…when we listen to the universe, empathic melodic thoughts form in harmony to gently touch the soul…and bring peace of mind…that is “Visions of a Different World”.

Be sure to support the artists by going to their official websites, buying their music and joining their email platforms. Details are in the episode description.

And So, As we pass through Dangerous Nights, get me out of here to find Redemption and Visions of a Different World, on the Minstral Show. See you next week everybody.

The Minstral Show – (Episode 047)

The World changed on September 11th, 2001; a day that will live on in infamy as a nightmare, that violently shook awake a western world living in apathy. For many, the finger of blame, that came from government and mainstream TV & news mediums was embraced and believed without question, but for others, it was an awakening to something far more sinister as the coming wars on oil rich nations would prove and so a truth seeking alternative media already up and running before that fateful day, sprung to life exponentially using the new age of internet communication to connect the dots and feed a growing hunger for truth via user friendly websites, chat rooms and social media.

The music industry, which was controlled by fewer and fewer hands was also censored, in that the bulk of mainstream TV and radio carried a disconnected corporate program while in contrast, the internet opened up new doors for independent artists to let out the real feelings and expressions of the people through their music.

Music emerged via the Internet to express the conscious awakening and the discontent people were feeling with the direction our governments and news mediums were leading us in…throughout modern history the peoples voice can be heard through music for moral causes and yet the mainstream airwaves played none of it…

This weeks episode of the Minstral Show will showcase some of that music featuring, Peter Case, Brother Speed, Jack Savoretti, Griffin House, Darling and Co, Rachel Van Zanten, Andy White, Switchfoot, Damien Dempsey and Isaac Hayden.

SET: 01

Starting off this musical awakening is Peter Case with “Lost in the Sky” a Psychedelic folksy blues tune from his 2002 album “Beeline”

“Lost in the Sky” is a fitting title to the way many of us felt in 2001 as we were cut lose from the apathetic world after 911 to face an unknown future…however that future came with a new age of information, discovery and awareness through the internet…everything changed as the jolt awakened some of us to the core and into a different state of mind while also leaving many feeling a little lost with a lot of questions…here’s a song that not only covers the atmosphere of the time but a song that will absorb your essence and heal the rift in consciousness. A song that receives a 10 out of 10 from this old DJ.

Following Peter Case is Aussie / UK band “Brother Speed” with their late 2013 single “Which Side I’m On”…a song that seemingly expresses the frustration of the individual and public when not listened to by society’s governments or its controllers when questions are asked. A great song with a unique blend of psychedelic pop and shoe gaze rock.

Following Brother Speed is Jack Savoretti with “Lost America” taken from his 2008 album “Harder than Easy”…”Lost America” is a song that shines the light on the chaos and confusion of America in the aftermath of 911 by the insane political turmoil and division that followed. A truly underrated song and album by one of today’s very best artists.

Closing this 4 song set is Griffin House with “Go Through it” taken from his 2013 album “Balls”… the song expresses feelings of depression which is a common feeling when something major happens in ones life such as a break up, loss of life, or even an awakening to a truth that changes ones foundation…“Go Through it” empathically helps us to expresses our feelings in an emotional healing process as there’s no escaping emotional pain, sometimes, we just have to go through it to heal ourselves…

And so, The feelings of being a little lost in waking times is normal and well expressed in music, on the Minstral Show.

SET: 02

Starting off the second set is Noumea Caladonia Band Darling & Co with “Wrong Lines” taken from their 2014 – 6 song EP “Close Connection” – “Wrong Lines” is a solid Rock tune that leans into Progressive Rock and carries a strong message of what ales the human race. Corporations drive human greed and there is no off switch…we must save ourselves by veering away from the wrong lines if we are to survive…

Following Darling & Co is Rachel Van Zantan with her 2010 single “My Country” Inspired by the Tahltan women blockading Shell in defense of the Sacred Headwaters in northern British Columbia. The song gets to the heart of what is very wrong in our world today…as there are no moral values in a corporate boardroom when it comes to life. A very powerful song that upholds life, moral value and consciousness.

Andy White closes the set with “This is Not a Television Show” taken from his November 2017 album “The Guilty and the Innocent”. The Irish are not afraid to say what they feel, I know because I’m Irish; When there are injustices in this world the Irish are usually the first to stand up for justice and so Northern Ireland native Andy White steps up to the plate and says it like it is…wake up my friends, because this is not a television show, pay attention and stand up for what is morally right.

A set of music that speaks truth to power from a strong foundation of moral character…this is the music revolution, on the Minstral Show.

SET: 03

Switchfoot starts off the final set with “Fading West” taken from the album “The Edge Of The Earth”…an album filled with Unreleased Songs From The Film "Fading West".

When you come full circle through an awakening where the establishments illusions fall away, and you realise that everything you were told about the world was all a bunch of lies, hopes of thriving can shatter, leaving you with only one place left to go, “Home”. This ones for you Michael Ruppert…may you rest in peace my friend, your voice will carry on

Damien Dempsey follows with “The City” taken from his 2007 album “To Hell or Barbados” one of Dempsey’s very best songs in my opinion as he gets right to the real heart of the solution to the worlds problems, we are all part of a family, and we need to remember that fact if we are to move the world forward and in the right direction.

Isaac Hayden closes the set with his 2014 brilliant cover of One Republic’s “I Lived”. A song about living and experiencing life the way it was intended. Imagine if we all did that…if we just stopped living in the greedy corporate illusion and live the way we were intended to live on this planet, as free men and women working together as a community…it’s not too late, hope remains…live life to its fullest with respect to others and yourself.

Be sure to support the artists by going to their official websites, buying their music and joining their email platforms. Details are in the episode description.

And now, Fading West, The City and I lived, on the Minstral Show.

The Minstral Show - (Episode 039)

Welcome to episode 39 of “The Minstral Show”!

An expressive line up of great music on this the 39th episode of the Minstral Show featuring, Greta Van Fleet, Black Country Communion, Son Little, Dave Kerzner, Exquisite Corp, Tom Moriarty, Peter Case, The Chemistry Set and Ancient Cities…serving up three sets of the best music being made today while covering a wide variety of genres from this global music revolution.

SET: 01

First up is a young band from Frakenmuth Michigan, “Greta Van Fleet” with their 2017 hard rockin hit “Highway” taken from their double EP “From the Fires”. If you are a Led Zeppelin fan hang on to your socks because this band not only sounds like Led Zeppelin, they beg the question are these new Led Zeppelin tunes? Jaw dropping rock n vocals with their own unique spirit to mirror past generations with todays world…Greta Van Fleet are brothers Josh, Jake and Sam Kiszka with family friend Danny Wagner…these guys really rock!

Following Greta Van Fleet is super group Black Country Communion with “Wanderlust” taken from their 2017 Album BCC4…an album that wakes the soul with its rockin mastery to shake the world and remind everyone that Rock n Roll is here to stay. Glen Hughes, Joe Bonamassa, Jason Bonham and Derick Sherinian carry the torch and lead the way in this new age of the global airwaves.

Closing the set is Philadelthia PA’s “Son Little” a.k.a. singer / songwriter Aaron Livingston with “O Me O My” The version I’ll play today is the 2018 Gavin Moss Remix version of the same song that originates from Son Littles 2017 album “New Magic”.

O Me O My is a soulful rockin Blues tune that faces the world through eyes that see…while dancing the weight of that world away through its beat and movement. A song that has captured the attention of millions of online listeners this past year. It was an instant hit with me the moment I heard it. Hope you enjoy it too.

SET: 02

The concept of our second set of music, is an awakening of sorts to this dying world of ours that begs us to find a better way to live.

Dave Kerzner opens the set with “Stranded” taken from his 2015 progressive rock concept album “New World” which is, in my opinion, the best progressive rock album to come along in over 3 decades. I can’t say enough about this album except that everyone should have a listen to the entire thing and then go out and buy it…Dave Kerzner is awesome.

Following Dave Kerzner is Sacramento California’s Exquisite Corp and their alternative Rock tune “Broken Petals” taken from their 2014 album Vignettes.

BRYAN V., ROBBY DEAN, NATHAN WEBB and ADAM RICE remind us that life is short, and not to waste it. An excellent song with a great message. One of the best from 2014.

Closing out the set is Tom Moriarity with “Finding a Better Way” taken from his 2013 five song EP “Snapshots of Reality”. The EP is well named and a hidden gem from 2013…Snapshots of Reality does just that, as the music and lyrics deliver satisfying, mellow and meaningful expressions to resonate with the listener.

Finding a Better Way is exactly what, collectively, we all need to do to make this world a better place.

SET: 03

Our 3rd set of music brings the energetic rock n roll vibes of Peter Case together with the doo wop pop sounds of “The Chemistry Set” and a retro 70’s pop tune from Ancient Cities. The sounds you are about to hear might qualify as a time trip to the past. A great upbeat foot tapping set to end the show.

“I Shook his Hand” was first released by Peter Case in 1986 as song “A” on a 2 song 7” flexi disc with record label “Nineteen” which was actually a rock 'n' roll fanzine from Toulouse, France that came with a flexi single inside.

Although, I don’t have a copy of the original one, I do have a wave file which was Recorded live at The Golden State Theater in Monterey, Ca. on March 30, 2013 with Deep Ellum…What can I say, this is Classic rock n roll, by a great musician, and band! Stay tuned as Peter Case Rocks the house down!

Following Peter is “The Chemistry Set” with International Rescue from their 2016 album “The Endless More and More”. This song is a real catchy retro doo wop 60’s pop tune that reminds me somewhat of the exciters, the Monkey’s and the Cookies, as it captures the nostalgic vibes of those times by the hooks and upbeat catchy waves within its infectious matrix. Listening once is not enough. Paul Lake, David McClain, and Dani are The Chemistry Set

Closing out the show is North Carolina’s “Ancient Cities” with their song “Sorceress” taken from their 2016 album “Super Moon Blackout”.

This song belongs in the 70’s sea of pop with songs such as Hitching a Ride by Vanity Fare, Beautiful Sunday by Daniel Boone and Love Grows where my Rosemary Goes by Edison Lighthouse…I swear these guys must have a time machine because they seem to be able to cover a variety of genres and time periods as if they were there and then to bring back the ambiance and nostalgia of those times into the 21st century. This is euphoric music for pop freaks like myself…and I have to say that if this song was released in the 70’s it would have gone platinum many times over. Hats off to Stephen Warwick, Justin Fedor, James Dulin, Justin Faircloth, and Matt Branniff of Ancient Cities.

Be sure to support the artists by going to their official websites, buying their music and joining their email platforms. Details are in the episode description.

And that’ll do it for another episode of the Minstral Show, now, let’s get into this time machine and blast off…see you next week!

United Music Mag 07 2016

Welcome to the 7th edition of United Music mag! Today’s featured artists are “The Rob Booth Band” from London, UK, “Billy Pettinger” aka “Billy the Kid” from Alabama, “Michael Mazochi” from LA, California, and “Peter Case” from San Francisco.

This week’s new music line-up is filled with Blues, folk, Rock, and everything in between including revolutionary elements that speak to the emotional social settings of our times. So let’s get this music revolution started!

1.

The Rob Booth Band

The Rob Booth Band is from London (UK) (South West - Wimbledon, Croydon, Morden) and was formed out of the famous jams at Ain't Nothing but the Blues bar in Soho. The Band has played together for the past 10 years in the UK & Spain, and will be on the road touring in 2016. Plans also include a studio visit with new material and a possible second album release later this year.

Their debut album, “Can’t Stop” was actually created in 2010 but was released on Bandcamp March 16th, 2016 which gives it the new music status in my books. The album flows with a variety of Americana blues, UK folk / pop influences through its solid mixture of originals and cover songs. The album centers on the insatiable pull of love, the despair of losing it and where it can leave you…’The Cold” is the place.

Have a listen to their smooth jazzy blues hit single “The Cold” and then check out the entire album, “Can’t Stop” below. Be sure to visit “The Rob Booth Band” on Facebook to keep up to date with what they’re up to…and don’t forget to give them the thumbs up.

2.

Billy Pettinger

Hailing from Vancouver BC, Canada, and now living in Alabama, Billy Pettinger aka Billy the Kid has created some of the very best memorable music in Alternative country / Soft Rock that this listener has heard, and I’ve heard a great many songs in my lifetime. Billy’s latest 5 song, almost album, “You Can Have it All” is no exception and contains a hidden diamond with the album’s opening song, “Moving On” which to me contains the sound and atmosphere that drew my attention to her music in the first place.

All 5 songs on “You Can Have it All” hold big potential and will resonate with Americana, soft rock, alt country, folk fans so check out Billy’s new, “almost album” below and then have a listen to “Thoroughfare” from 2014 and “New Orleans Night” from 2012. To me, these songs capture a certain melancholy mood and atmosphere of an age as they reach out through music history like a message in a bottle showing they can withstand the tempestuous seas of time.

Be sure to visit Billy’s social links, check out more of her great music and say hi!

3.

Michael Mazochi

Today’s third artist is Michael Mazochi from Los Angeles, California. Michael weaves his creative spirit and writing abilities across many genres putting life and meaning into all of his music. So today we’ll show you a little bit of Michael’s world as we cover his latest music projects including his folk rock a la Woody Guthrie, “The Cold War Sessions” and the energetic rock n roll of “The Michael Mazochi Band".

Michael Mazochi has been pursuing the evolution of expression for the better part of a decade. His work ranges from folk, to country, to indie rock, to pop, to rock and roll. His more instrumentally dense work with his band is an exploration of pop, psychedelic, garage and good old fashioned rock n' roll while his solo work tends towards the more intimate confessions of a solo artist.

In my opinion, everyone needs a revolution, and mine revolves around music. So when I hear the pains of the world or the call to put up a fight for freedom and justice and what is right, all contained in a song, I’m an instant fan…and so I’m really pleased to feature Michael Mazochi and his music on United Music Mag today…this is what it’s all about!

Michael’s music vibrates on many frequencies with mindful energy and spirit to capture the listener’s heart and soul as you will hear in the music selections below, but don’t take my word for it, go to iTunes to have a listen to his latest album “The Cold War”.

“The Cold War” is a brilliant album that is destined to be one of the albums of the year as it resonates with the life and times we are living in today. ~ Stewart Brennan, World United Music

Be sure to check out Michael’s music below and at the links provided…and be sure to drop by his social network pages to give him the thumbs up…hey, the revolution begins with music, pass it on!

4.

Peter Case

Peter Case’s work sets the bar for authenticity, passion and imagination and spans a number of genres, including folk, blues, and rock. Raised in Buffalo, NY, Case came to the Bay area in 1973 and worked as a street musician and played in the seminal power pop group The Nerves, before moving to Los Angeles to form the Plimsouls, landing a deal with Geffen Records.

The Plimsouls achieved success with the single, "A Million Miles Away,” but broke up shortly after. Case’s 1986 solo Geffen record revealed deep roots in folk and blues, and earned him his first Grammy nomination for the song “Old Blue Car” as well as the Number 1 spot on the NY Time’s 1986 Best CDs list. Six CDs later, Case earned another nomination for Let Us Now Praise Sleepy John, a remarkable collection of songs that features Case’s voice and a single guitar. It’s clear that Case is a major talent on the Americana troubadour landscape.

Case’s 2010 CD, Wig emphasized the rock and blues side of Case’s repertoire, while 2007's Let Us Now Praise Sleepy John demonstrates what Case can do with just his voice and a guitar. With or without a backing band, Case delivers his songs with both intense passion and introspective nuance.

HWY 62 is the latest album by Peter Case released on October 30th, 2015. The album is another masterful offering that easily falls into a plethora of music genres including acoustic folk, blues, Americana, alt country, and the protest categories that will please a great number of music fans. The content of “HWY 62” is filled with memories, hard times and brutal honesty that comes to life with this seasoned folk and blues veteran who delivers a realistic professional air, flair and swagger with his music…and it can be said without hesitation that the music of Peter Case stands on its own with the pulse of the nation playing the chords…

“HWY 62 reaches deep down into the depths of the soul of a nation to mirror the times we live in and it’s delivered by a seasoned veteran, with total class.” ~ Stewart Brennan, World United Music

Be sure to check out all of Peter’s music and visit his social pages to catch up with what he’s up to and where he’s touring.
