About: The Happy Fallen
The Happy Fallen is a solo project by Neale
James. He has played in many bands over the years, and played with many well
respected Manchester musicians/artists including Craig Gannon (of Aztec Camera/
The Smiths), Ivor Perry (Easterhouse/The Cradle), John Bramwell (The Mouth/ I
Am Kloot), Stella Grundy (Intastella), and still working on occasional musical
projects with Monica Ward (The Happy Mondays/Domino Bones).
“Lost and Found” released on Aug 26th,
2015 and is a collection of old and new recordings. The older recordings have
been remixed, remastered with new vocals and instruments added.
“Psychedelic Rock and Garage Rock have
always seem to be linked together. Although, to me, they are quite opposites.
Garage Rock has always been basic, stripped down, no-nonsense meeting of primal
energy and musical instrument (or whatever object is at hand to bang, pluck or
sometimes throw). Whereas Psychedelic Rock, always seemed more expansive and
exploratory transcending the well-worn formula of three chord
'verse/bridge/chorus' approach.
Psychedelia is not a sound or a genre, to
me. It’s a state of mind; a desire to create sounds / frequencies that resonate
with alternative states of consciousness. Sometimes drug-induced, sometimes
not. After all, our bodies are already loaded with plenty of 'natural drugs'
without having to call the local pharmacist. Anyway, I digress. My point is
that ALL MUSIC is Psychedelic in a way. It's just that some music doesn't go so
far as to touch those deep dark recesses of our soul / being. But, if it makes
you feel good, go with it. If not, change the frequencies until something
clicks inside. That's all I do. A parametric equalizer for the soul. Keep
adjusting until something clicks. All is frequency. We just gotta find the ones
that make us feel good. I'm not sure what kind of music I make. I just twiddle
until it feels right.
Incidentally, all these songs have been
recorded using the A= 432hz tuning as opposed to the normal 440hz. I find it
more natural and less uptight and compressed.
Most of these songs are quite loose, some
with no real structure. I could quite happily play one chord for hours…if it
was the right one.
Hope you like the tunes.
Peace folks x
