State Lights

About: State Lights

State Lights are a four-piece rock band from Dublin, Ireland who released their debut EP "The Breakout EP" on September 22nd, 2014 and then Re-Released it on March 24th, 2016 as "The Disguise".

"The Disguise" is a debut full of courage and ambition.

Telling tales of young love, frontman, Shobsy wears his heart on his sleeve throughout, portraying incredible amounts of emotion whilst also displaying his great vocal range. The foundation he sits upon is brilliant from start to finish, with guitarist Joe Regan providing a melodic and atmospheric sonic journey through the use of delays and reverbs. The rhythm section also shines, with Noel Perry carrying the weight of each song with his solid bass playing, as well as Paul Ridgeway giving the songs huge energy through his clinical, hard hitting drum parts.

"Love Is In Your Eyes" and "Let You Go" both present the bands extreme Pop sensibilities and respectfully lyrically describe those moments of excitement when one is falling in love and those moments when you must accept that a relationship has run its course. "Breakout" is this young band announcing their arrival to the world stage, with an impressive Stadium Rock song reminiscent of U2's finer musical moments.

Band Members:
Shobsy - Vocals
Joe Regan - Guitar
Noel Perry - Bass
Paul Ridgeway - Drums

D-Day

About: D-Day

We formed in 2010 and have been rocking harder than any teen garage band ever since then.

D-Day are a young rock band which has 4 members that breathe new life into classic rock, taking over from their 1960's and 1970's idols. Over the summer of 2011 they recorded a 6 track E.P. @ their rehearsing room.

Their songs are personal and powerful, and their live shows rock! On stage, you will surely remember D-Day for their passion and joy for playing.

In July 2012 they won the gig to support The Deans and Thin Lizzy @ The Volvo Ocean Race Galway, Main Stage after entering the "Getting To The Main Stage" youth music competition.

In September 2013 they pre-released a video for "Eyes Open" from their self titled E.P. which was released on March 26th, 2014.

Hozier

About: Hozier

What are the Twenty First Century Blues? And who shall we find to sing them?

From trivial first world problems to the seismic shifts in geopolitics, the modern Blues resonate down the years with the same eternal themes – loss, loneliness, longing and regret. New wine in vintage casks.

Born on St. Patrick's Day and hailing from County Wicklow, Hozier was raised on the building blocks of popular music: rhythm and blues, soul, jazz and the deep dark stuff stretching from Chicago to the Delta. He joined his first band when he was 15 years old, fronting a soul band with some older heads. Taught himself to play guitar and piano, and went to Trinity College to study music. Whilst there, he bagged a seat on the flight deck of the symphonic B-52 that is the Trinity Orchestra, fronting their missions into the world of classic rock.

However, four years looked like a long stretch, particularly when the goal was to write, record and perform his own music; so Hozier dropped out to concentrate his talents on the creative process full time. He tried out with a few different producers in various studios, experimented with genres; but never felt happy with the results. Home is where the art is, and a simple studio, set up in the attic proved to be the crucible where Hozier would forge a musical identity he could call his own. A place where Stevie Wonder and Billie Holiday are revered alongside James Joyce and Oscar Wilde.

He says: “Listen to any song, from any era; and you're looking through a keyhole into the artist's world as seen through their eyes. Art is, in it's simplest form, the reproduction of the world around us. All artists reproduce their vision of the world, and in doing so create a document that reflects the times they live in”. Which brings us back to the Twenty First Century Blues, and Hozier's unique, poetic evocations.

Hozier's first release is a 4 track EP. 'Take Me To Church' (the lead track) and 'Angel Of Small Death' reflect the gospel – soul gumbo at the heart of his music; 'Like Real People Do' is an Arcadian acoustic adventure and 'Cherry Wine' a raw emotional discourse, recorded live at 6am on an abandoned hotel rooftop; with accompaniment from the dawn chorus. Hozier played all the instruments (Fiachra Kinder helped out on drums), sang all the parts and recorded at home. Rob Kirwan (Depeche Mode, PJ Harvey) mixed the tracks in Dublin.

Johnny Duhan

About: Johnny Duhan

Johnny Duhan started his career as a fifteen year old front man with Granny’s Intentions, the most popular beat group in Ireland in the 60s. After rousing Dublin with their soul touch, they moved to London, were signed to the prestigious Deram label, enjoyed considerable success and disbanded before Johnny was twenty one. Johnny started writing folk songs, poetry and prose at this stage. In a career spanning 40 years, his greatest achievement is a quartet of epic albums - Just Another Town, To The Light, The Voyage and Flame - which correspond to the four chapters of his lyrical autobiography, TO THE LIGHT. Johnny’s songs are sung worldwide in a variety of languages, thanks to the focus put on them by Christy Moore, The Dubliners, Mary Black and hosts of other Irish and international singers. His song The Voyage has become a modern classic. Christy Moore has termed Johnny “One of our greatest songwriters.” And the late Ronnie Drew described him as “one of my favourite songwriters.” A new album, The Burning Word, has just been released.

Johnny’s journey is set out in a series of albums that portray his life - his Limerick boyhood in JUST ANOTHER TOWN; his tilt for fame and the girl in TO THE LIGHT; his reflections on family life in THE VOYAGE; and his spiritual quest in FLAME.

“After a number of hard knocks in 2014, I struggled into 2015 with not just a chip on my shoulder but a full beam on my back. One winter morning while carrying this load up an incline in Barna Woods (a place I often stroll through), I found my usual path blocked by a fallen tree, knocked by a storm the night before. Rooted to the spot by the surprise obstacle, I scratched my head glancing around at other smaller trees that had survived the tempest. While making my way around the exposed root structure at the end of the wide trunk I noticed that the bed the tree had grown in was a wide ledge of solid rock, with little or no root room. Examining the roots themselves I saw that the long fibrous tentacles had had to stretch themselves right to the edge of the rock ledge and over it to gain earth support and nourishment to grow. By the great size of the tree, it had been no mean achievement to have flourished and grown for so long. Still thinking of this when I got home from my walk, I jotted an account of my encounter with the tree in my Song Journal, and a few days later a song grew organically from my notes, “The Fallen Tree”. Without strain or effort, other songs started stemming from the same natural source, all related one way or the other to the felled tree, which I began to associate with the proverbial Tree of Life and with my own life history and journey. It took five months to complete the full collection Creation, which I intend releasing as an album in early 2016, to mark the 50th year of my calling in song.  A video of The Fallen Tree made by Tony Walsh & Tocar Media will appear on Youtube prior to the album’s release.  The title song “Creation” will be released as a single on iTunes and other download outlets in September 2015. For further details of the overall work Creation visit my Official website

Johnny lives in Barna, Galway.

The Hooks

About: The Hooks

In search of new thrills, Keith & Ronan Mulligan left Ireland for San Francisco, all the while missing both the economic upturn and subsequent downturn.

A dodgy rehearsal space in the Tenderloin furnished The Hooks with inspiration for an album in 2010. Recorded by friend and mentor Jamie McMann at Hyde Street Studios. The album “Everything Is Golden” received wide acclaim and secured us a European Tour.

What followed were countless tours of the US, playing with such notables as X, The Pogues, Shane MacGowan, Flogging Molly, The Stiff Little Fingers and Cheap Trick to name a few.

Here and 3 records later is where they met Colin, Chet and Lance. We are currently working on the follow up record, soon to be recorded at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley.
