SET: 01

Starting off this week’s episode is Creed with “My Sacrifice” taken from their November 2001 album “Weathered”. The album went Platinum 6 times and sold more than 6 million copies in the US alone so it is a very popular album.

I find that the lyrics and music in “My Sacrifice” are filled with passion as they combine to hold special moments between friends aloft. Truly a classic song in every way. Not lost on me either is that this song was released in October 2001…in a year of great upheaval that sent the World into a tail spin…for me, the song ties in the atmosphere, the divide and memories of two ages, before and after 911…

Following Creed is Charlotte North Carolina’s “Seventh Epic” with “Crescent” taken from their December 2008 album “On the Edge”. This is a solid hard rock tune by Josh and Sarah Queen who jump out of the gate to shine their obvious talents. They’ve since changed the bands name to “The Droids”…however, “Crescent” is a great song by them from music’s lost decade.

“The Fixx” follow with “Just Before Dawn” taken from their 2012 album, “Beautiful Friction”. A soothing song of hope as one breaks away from old world habits to evolve into an awakening that frees one from bondage…just before the dawn of a new day.

Robert Plant closes the set with the title track from his Oct 2017 album “Carry Fire”… Robert Plant’s voice breathes life and passion into the song which carries an infectious Middle Eastern, dream-like mystique. The song is very hypnotic that easily gathers the imagination and consciousness into a Trance. “Carry Fire” does just that, like a voice calling from across the distance of time to launch a million poets. The vocals and music are simply brilliant!

And so, My Sacrifice comes to us in a Crescent Just before Dawn that Carries Fire, on the Minstral show.

SET: 02

Clay Rose starts off the second set with Outlaw and Dream Thief taken from his 2008 EP “Suck on This” What can I say, Punk meets country in a wild fusion of energy that builds and builds to a great climactic slam with the Outlaw & Dream Thief. A real energy burst for sure.

“Naked Hearts” follow with the title track to their 2010 album “Mass Hysteria”.

New York City duo “Amy Cooper” and “Noah Wheeler” are “The Naked Hearts” and Although the band is no longer active their music still is. A Good solid driving song in... “Mass Hysteria”.

Salford UK Band “The Inflictors” follow with “Crooked and Bent” taken from their 2010 self titled album, “The Inflictors”. If you love rock n roll with attitude, this songs for you - “The Inflictors”! “Crooked and Bent”.

Vintage Trouble follows with “Run Like the River” taken from their 2015 album “One Hopeful Road”…What can I say except Oh Ya this is what I’m talkin about…Great rockin music that seemingly combines the awesome raunchy blues of George Thorogood with the power and vocals of James Brown, with that you get Vintage Trouble. Bam! Run Like the River!

And so the Outlaw Dream Thief creates Mass Hysteria as the Crooked and Bent Run like the River…a rockin set of music with attitude on the Minstral Show.

SET: 03

UK band “Metropolis” kicks off the final set with “Sirens” taken from their March 2014 Album “Out of Mind”. Metropolis delivers a solid Rock explosion with an awesome twist of New Wave that made "Sirens" one of the top songs of 2014. Exciting Alternative Rock from UK band METЯOPOLIS.

UK artist Paul Cusick follows with “Everything” taken from his January 2012 album “P’dice” “Everything” is a song about the divide in life where greed and sociopathic behaviour is taught and preferred leaving an empty hole inside rather than living a moral conscientious compassionate life. An excellent song that lays out modern life in plain view.

Steve Wynn follows with “Amphetamine” taken from his 2003 album “Static Transmission”. Many will know Steve Wynn as the front man in LA group “Dream Theater”. However, Steve created a lot of music including this wild road trip called “Amphetamine” with his “Miracle Three”…Amphetamine is a song that explodes out of the garage rock vault into a rock n roll roadster. Good stuff

UK group “Muse” close the set with “Uprising” taken from their September 2009 album “The Resistance” a fitting song to close the show with a revolutionary blast at the deep state by the 99%. - As I recall, Back in 2009, people began to organize resistance through social media where Occupy and “Uprising” were the words heard everywhere throughout the west. Revolution was in the air and “Uprising” became an anthem that carried the growing voice of protest. It’s Still a powerful song that needs to be pulled out of the dust bins of the past into the present until positive change comes for all. “Uprising”

Black Country Communion opens the first set with “Man in the Middle” taken from their 2011 album “BCC II” This is a really great head boppin’ song that has Led Zeppelin influence all over it, and why not, with the great talents of Glenn Hughes, Joe Bonamassa, Jason Bonham, Derek Sherinian and producer Kevin Shirley, your going to get something special. An excellent song…but Beware the Man in the Middle, who’s cry is a riddle

Ruby the Hatchet follows with “Killer” taken from their August 2017 album “Planetary Space Child”. Here’s a song that comes out of the Blocks running as it certainly captured my attention the day it dropped. A big “Wow” for starters and an “Oh Ya” at the end…great head boppin rock music with attitude…love this tune.

Alice Cooper follows with “Paranoiac Personality” taken from his 2017 album “Paranormal”. There’s no mistaking an Alice Cooper track as this one goes for the ego’s jugular to be sure by showing the disconnection of society by fake news…we live in crazy times where everyone’s at each others throats because of this great disconnect which has matasticized through a million positions that are based in lies, half truths and exaggeration’s…which of course molds the “Paranoiac Personality”. A very good measurement of western society these days.

Drenge closes the set with “Before the War Begins” taken from their upcoming 2018 EP “Autonomy”. As the heat rises around the world in these dire economic times where lies, propaganda and a police state unfold, there is a great division cast by the controllers of society and it always happens before the war begins…history repeats…and this song is like a measuring stick to a boiling society where its controllers are greedily stirring the pot. Another excellent tune by UK band Drenge.

And so, the man in the middle is a killer with a paranoiac personality before the war begins…a hard rockin and engaging set, on the minstral show.

SET: 02

Dave Kerzner starts off the second set with “Chain Reaction” taken from his September 2017 album “Static” An excellent album filled with unspeakable truth.

“Chain Reaction” spells out what happens when you swallow the lies which then become your foundation…in that theater, there is a chain reaction of consequences and a losing war within, as Pride and ego get in the way leading to tears and going too far. It’s a brilliant song both musically and lyrically…that carries an important message for our times.

Mike Mackenzie from Calgary Alberta Canada follows with “Solar Winds” taken from his October 2017 album “Solstice”

After battling the persistent dark forces in life, there is a point of awakening that tows a fine line to help us stay on the right path…a solstice point within, if you will, that helps us navigate the rest of life’s journey. A top notch, song by a talented artist.

Scott Ryan from Spokane Washington follows with “Run on Sentence” taken from his 2011 album “Mercy Killings”. Scott Ryan delivers a passionate rock n soul performance to deliver a message, that Change comes for everyone that is far away from their heart, and it always comes just in time to save ones soul and put us back on course…in a way, this song reminds me of the southern rock made by Lynard Skynard…two very big thumbs up for “Run on Sentence”.

Philip Morgan Lewis closes the set with “Whistle Blower” a single released in 2014 and later in 2017 on his album “Grief Harbour” This song is for all the Truth tellers out there and in particular Julian Assange who is paying a heavy price for being a Whistle Blower by leaking to the public, the crimes being committed by the militarized economic deep state. In today’s society the good are punished while the criminals go free...yet it doesn’t have to be that way if we all stand up for what’s right. A great song by Philip Morgan Lewis that is sure to stir the passions in the awakened; a must share by everyone if we are to free the peoples voice.

And so, here’s another awakening set of music to define our times, just for you, on the Minstral show…

SET: 03

The Spires kick off the final set on today’s program with “Response to an Inquiry” taken from their 2013 album “Eternal Yeah”. The song is a progressive alternative psychedelic embrace with consciousness in the first fragile moments of an awakening. A personal favourite of mine that carries familiar sound bytes of some of the early solo albums by Paul McCartney…(Ram & Red Rose Speedway” come to mind) The Spires – Response to an Inquiry” Good tune.

From New York NY, Duo Chris Stoddard and Samantha Ritter better known as “Miss Mobile Home” follow with “Bird in the House” taken from their 2014 - debut EP “PhotoTaxis”. “Bird in the House” is a lyrically poetic song that carries a dream like atmosphere with a blend of happy yet melancholy memories…a wonderful song of reflection.

“Fink” follows with “Little Bump” taken from his May 2017 EP “Sunday Night Blues Dubs”…Little Bump” is a unique blend of acoustic psychedelic dream blues that sits on the edge of forever looking to the horizon. I could be in this state of mind all night long, one song is not enough and so the 5 song EP plays on repeat when I’m in that zone. Psychedelic dream blues…is that a new genre? “Little Bump” by Fink.

IRIS Corporation follows with “Highest Love” taken from their July 2009 album “A New Saint Session”. Highest Love is the perfect song to end today’s episode as we reach down from the state of awakening and pull ourselves up into a higher frequency to overcome a lost world…the truth is in you, and not in the digital society that has emerged to hypnotize the masses. Dare to be you in the highest frequency of love’s energy.

Staring off today's program is a really powerful set of Pop music to lift your spirits and start the emotive holiday dance with your soul.

From Lancaster UK, Lake Komo opens the show with “ThinkTank” taken from their November 2015 EP “Ritual”.

Lake Komo’s “ThinkTank” is a feel good pop tune that carries an infectious sound and lyric to help the listener escape the insanity of today’s world. A Really good tune and a positive energy driver.

“Turnover” from Virginia Beach follows with “Humming” taken from their 2015 album “Peripheral Vision”.

“Humming” is a dream pop song that expresses the love struck soul’s infatuation and attraction to the carefree and creative individual who lives in an inviting world of their own personal creation. A perfect Dream Pop song in sound and lyric.

Two Wounded Birds follows with “If Only We Remain” taken from their self titled 2012 album “Two Wounded Birds”. “If Only We Remain” is a truly empathic song about the feelings one has when losing someone close, where you find your emotions in free fall, feeling weak at the knees, and feeling the young vulnerable child inside. A 5 star Euphoric Pop tune that is emotionally packed by the delivery of two wounded birds.

Closing the set is Seattle Washington’s “Ivan & Alyosha” with “Running for Cover” taken from their Feb 2013 album “All the Times We Had”.

“Running for Cover” is about trying to make sense of life while walking the straight and narrow path after mankind’s fall from paradise, told through an infectious Pop music and lyric and One of many great tunes by “Ivan and Alyosha”.

And so, here are “Lake Komo” “Turnover” “Two Wounded Birds” and “Ivan & Alyosha”…a soul moving set of music, on the Minstral Show.

SET: 02

South Africa’s “Gavin Coetzee” starts off the second set with “Cinderella” taken from his 2011 album “Orange Forest”. Cinderella is an infectious alternative rock song with a South African vocal beat that breathes life into the atmosphere around you…it’s hard not to move or tap along with this song…a great tune by Gavin Coetzee”

Chicago’s “Secret Colours” follows with the title track to their 2014 album “Positive Distraction”. A neo-psychedelic pop rock tune that is as unique and as crisp as a standout song can be. Good music by a great band.

Next, alternative / Psychedelic Rock Band “The Outs” from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, follow with “Right or Wrong” taken from their official 2013 debut EP “Spiral Steams” The song brings to mind the 60’s psychedelic pop era bands such as The Byrds and The Zombies which of course concurs with the rave reviews they received on British Radio stations when it was released. Right or Wrong by the Outs.

California Band, “The Spires” follow with “Stereo Images” taken from their May 2018 album “Obscured View” an alternative Rock / neo-psych tune with creatively poetic lyrics that reminds me of “The Velvet Underground”. Their fresh original cuts speak volumes to just how good this band is…stereo images is more than ok, its right on.

And so, Cinderella is a Positive Distraction, Right or Wrong, its in Stereo Images, on the Minstral show.

SET: 03

Starting off the final set is London UK’s Mike Weston better known as “Adult Cinema” with “Time Machine” taken from his 2018 remastered version of his 2007 debut album “This Is Your Life”. The opening lyrics express the song perfectly,

“Everyday I wish for a time machine to Take me back to the day, When the music and houses and people Had style and beauty…but they’ve taken it all away…”

A common observation and belief by a great many people who experienced better times compared to the world in which we are stuck in today. An excellent and very relevant tune by “Adult Cinema”.

Lunatic Soul follows with the title track from his May 2018 album “Under the Fragmented Sky”. The album contains 35 minutes of completely new, previously unreleased music from the Fractured album sessions that, in its way, has its own identity and character but also compliments the character of the Fractured album…”Under the Fragmented Sky is another excellent album by Muriusz Duda.

From Vancouver BC Canada, “Painted Coda” follows with “Dawn” taken from his May 2018 album “The Vanishing”. The album is a progressive rock album that touches on themes of loss and depression and experiments with the classic and hard rock generations of the genre. “Dawn” reminds me of the music composed by Paul Williams that’s played by character “Winslow Leach” in the movie, “Phantom of the Paradise” a cult classic and a favorite of mine from the 70’s.

Refracted Memories closes the show with “Visions of Nineveh” taken from their 2015 album “Stepping Stones”. Refracted Memories is a collaboration between Welsh producer Michael Wadlow, American producer Jack Morefield, and singer songwriter Jay Arana. Their song “Visions of Nineveh” rolls into consciousness like a prophetic thought draped in fog from a forgotten time to round out a set of music that is progressive rock in every way.

Today’s show spotlights a good variety of rock, folk and progressive rock sounds from this the new age of music, Featuring: Middle Distance Runner, Two Wounded Birds, JD McPherson, Rick Parfitt, Tom Keifer, Neil Young, The Hanging Stars, The Greek Theater, Agnes Obel, and Lunatic Soul.

SET: 01

Today’s first set brings the positive energy of Pop Rock and Rock n Roll to the forefront; to help us battle the negative forces we all have to deal with on a daily basis.

Middle Distance Runner starts us off with the title track to their 2015 album “Secret Things”. This is good driving music that easily turns your steering wheel into a drum kit…just be careful of that base petal however, as you could find your self speeding down the road a little too fast. A very likeable song filled with hooks and energy to drive your spirit in a positive direction.

And, Just when the energy level peaks, Two Wounded Birds follows with a great Pop Rock tune called “To Be Young” taken from their self titled 2012 album “Two Wounded Birds”. This song really takes off as it creates a euphoric experience I can’t seem to get enough of…the song has it all, as it comes in waves with an infectious blend of sound and a melancholy lyric that creates an atmosphere of memories, good feelings, and the urge to sing…that’s the magic of real pop music…

JD McPherson follows with his smash hit “North Side Gal” taken from his debut 2010 album “Sign and Signifiers”… “North Side Gal” is a time warp back to the 50’s like no other…when I first heard this song, my jaw dropped and when it finished, I had to put the song on repeat. It was an instant favourite for this old free lance DJ…as you can imagine, dance floors all over time, will be up and rockin as this song plays…an instant classic in the positive sphere of music.

Closing the set is Status Quo guitarist, Rick Parfitt with “Lock Myself Away” taken from his solo album “Over and Out”. The album was postumously released by earMusic on March 23^rd, 2018 after the sudden passing of Rick Parfitt on December 24^th, 2017. Rick had finished the vocal and guitar tracks but didn’t have the opportunity to complete it and so a number of great musicians helped to complete the album including, Brian May of Queen, Chris Wolstenholme of Muse, former Status Quo bassist Alan Lancaster and current bassist John "Rhino" Edwards which was also co-produced by Parfitt's son Rick Parfitt Jnr. A great job done by all to give music fans a great album by an artist that is dearly missed.

So, get ready for an up-beat Pop and Rock n Roll set of music to power the positive vibes of your day, on the Minstral Show.

SET: 02

Our second set turns the page to a 70’s style of Rock with Tom Keifer, Neil Young and The Hanging Stars.

Cinderella vocalist, Tom Keifer opens the set with “Solid Ground” taken from his 2016 debut album “The Way Life Goes”.

“Solid Ground” reminds me of the great Rod Stewart and Faces song “Every Picture Tells a Story” the song however, is purely Tom Keifer and clearly a classic on its own. This is a Really, really good solid rock tune by Tom Keifer and band.

Neil Young Follows with “No Hidden Path” taken from his 2007 album “Chrome Dreams II” - “No Hidden Path” is a 15 minute song of spiritual consciousness by Neil Young…a good trip and a classic tune in every way. Love this song.

The Hanging Stars close the set with “Floodbound” taken from their March 2016 album “Over the Silvery Lake”. If you enjoy Crosby Stills Nash and Young, there’s a very good chance you will really enjoy UK band The Hanging Stars. The entire album is an excellent tour through soft Americana country psychedelic music…I mean, what’s not to like? “Floodbound” is my personal favourite from this excellent 2016 album.

And so we sit on solid ground with no hidden path as we are floodbound with great music, on the Minstral show.

SET: 03

“The Greek Theater” open the final set with “Kings of Old” taken from their Feb 2017 album “Broken Circle”. This was a must have album for me in 2017 as I found the album to be filled with a variety of great retro 60’s and 70’s sounds that resonated with me as I’m sure it will resonate with others as well.

Following the Greek Theater is Agnes Obel with “Trojan Horses” taken from her October 2016 album “Citizen of Glass”. ”Trojan Horses” is a shadow of deeply poetic words and sounds of reflection. What more can I say about this brilliant artist and album that I haven’t already said in earlier episodes…”Citizen of Glass” is a must have album by an awesome artist…

“Lunatic Soul” the solo project of Mariusz Duda of “Riverside” follows with “The Art of Repairing” taken from his May 2018 Album “Under the Fragmented Sky”.

“The Art of Repairing” is an electro progressive masterpiece that repairs the fractured soul through a music stasis that builds to a cathedral of sound. a very unique song by the creative genius of Mariusz Duda…in a way, the music reminds me of Alan Parsons with a touch of Pink Floyd’s “Shine on You Crazy Diamond”. An excellent song to end today’s episode.

The Minstral Show – (Episode 050)

Today’s show spotlights a good variety of rock, folk and progressive rock sounds from this the new age of music, Featuring: The Fixx, UNDERLIGHTS, Old Sea Brigade, Broken Anchor, Nordagust, Serundal, Ghostess, Rick Miller, Dave Kerzner, Nine Skies, The Colin Tench Project, and Mark Knopfler.

More than just a podcast, World United Music has emerged to bring you the best music being made in the 21^st century by signed, unsigned and Independent artists.

SET: 01

“The Fixx" start us off with the title track from their 2012 album, “Beautiful Friction”. Sometimes it seems life passes by quickly and during it, are cycles we experience that bring us full circle in life’s rhythms and then these cycles repeat bringing a familiar and Beautiful Friction. An excellent song by one of my favourite bands of the first vinyl era…The Fixx

Following The Fixx are Sydney Australia’s “Underlights” with “Now that You’re in Love” taken from their 2012 self titled EP “Underlights”. I love the Beatle-esque psychedelic sounds and vocals of this song…to me, this is what real euphoric Pop sounds like…this is good music.

Ben Cramer better known as “Old Sea Brigade” follows with his 2016 single “All the Same” A comforting song that builds into a vocal harmony and gets one taping into a personal state of music sanctuary…the song really resonates to lift ones spirits; truly one of the best songs in the mp3 age.

Closing the set is Broken Anchor with “Leave the Lights On” taken from their 2012 EP “Fresh Lemonade” Some times we can be so into what we are doing that we forget the others that are important in our lives only to realise our mistakes long after the damage is done…many of us have been there and so this song becomes meaningful not only in lyric but also in the way it resonates with the listener. A great song that stirs inner healing…that’s the magic of music.

And so, we look back to understand the errors of our ways and see cycles in our lives that repeat in a beautiful friction…but if you leave the lights on, I’ll know that you still care…another excellent set of music on the minstral show.

SET: 02

Our second set is a mixture of Progressive rock, Medieval Celtic Folk and acoustic that meshes very well together to tell a tale of its own. Nordagust starts us off with “Make Me Believe” taken from their 2010 album “In the Mist of the Morning” an excellent progressive rock tune that embraces the magic of the mellotron and the imagination.

The band takes its name from the mythical spirit of the north wind, a spirit that is said to be extremely wise with insight to all things." A very well chosen name to be sure.

Following Nordagust is Serundal with “Lady of the Isles” taken from their 2006 album “Waiting Rooms”.

“Lady of the Isles” is a song about A lady grieving for her lover who is fighting in the crusades. Alone in the chapel of the castle, she drinks poisoned wine and lies dying while her lover lies dying in a foreign field. Generations later she is heard laughing with her lover in the castle grounds, no longer alone, their happiness is eternal. Magical music by UK duo Maxie and David King.

Following Serundal is Vancouver BC native Jenna Earle better known as “Ghostess” with “Soleil” taken from her self titled EP Ghostess.

A mysterious acoustic atmosphere sets the stage for a slide build up to seize the streams of time and carry us through the hurdles of life and land us safely on the other side. Soleil of course is the French word for “Sun” and through our lives the sun does carry our spirits throughout our life and then into what lies beyond.

Rick Miller closes the set with the title track to his 2008 album “Angel of My Soul”.

A song that tells the tale of the embattled spirit of a man who’s at the end of his life and ready to cross over as he lays down tired of fighting the battles in life only to fight one more to save his soul. A Classic Rick Miller tune.

And so, Make Me Believe, Lady of the Isles, Soleil, and Angel of My Soul, is a set of music on repeat, here on the Minstral Show.

SET: 03

Dave Kerzner starts off our final set with the Title Track of his December 2014 Album “New World”. The song is a reality check on the way we live on this planet which is greed based, war like and unforgiving. If we all just took a deep breath and listened to each other patiently, we might find a better way to live and begin to build a New World. A great song from a brilliant album and one of my personal favourites.

Nine Skies from Nice France follows with the title track from their November 2017 album, “Return Home” A song of loneliness in the city and the wish to return home to sanctuary. The song can also be interpreted as the conscious spirit within wanting to leave this world and travel back to the place from where we came from before our birth. This is Progressive rock at its finest.   

The Colin Tench Project follows with “And so, Today” featuring Peter Jones, taken from their 2016 album “Hair in a G String”. There were a lot of well known artists who passed away in 2016 and this song encapsulates the sad feelings we all had in their passing. A song that, to me, will always connect me to those moments and the ones that followed.

Closing the show is Mark Knopfler with the title track to his 2009 album “Get Lucky” this song is dedicated to everyone experiencing hard times, we are all in the same boat but we do win some of the battles and get lucky now and then. Truly one of the many great songs by Mark Knopfler.
